Btech at IIT Bombay Review

At my rank, this was the best possible major I could get at IIT Bombay. Beyond the major, there is ample flexibility in choosing the electives. Additionally, you can pursue a minor degree in computer science, machine learning, management, etc that will add a lot of value to your academic experience. A semester lasts 4 months and usually, exams happen once every month.

The internship season starts with the start of the 5th semester, and the average stipend will be around 80k-1lakhs per month, the highest could go up to 20 lakhs per month with a joining bonus of 10-15 lakhs for quant firms.

The placements happen before your last semester from December 1. It happens in two phases: the first is from December 1 to 15, and the second is from January to March. This year, due to the recession, the numbers were very discouraging, but still, around 300+ companies visited the campus in phase 1, and around 1000 students were placed. Also, around 200 students had accepted pre-placement offers they got through their summer internships. The highest will be around 3 cr, and the average will be around 22-23 LPA.

The fee is around 150k per semester, which includes tuition, hostel, and mess fees. You can apply for loans at an interest rate lower than the market rate from SBI, which is their scholar loan program for top colleges. Some scholarships are also available for students with an annual income of less than 5 lakhs, and there are some merit-based scholarships, too.

The college's grandest events unfold in December. Mood Indigo, a cultural fest, hosts top artists, while the techfest, the largest technical fest in Asia, showcases innovation. Throughout the year, there will be hostel and department-level fests.IIT Bombay also offers the top-notch sports facilities.

First three years, you will live in rooms with double occupancy, and in the last year, you will get solo rooms. The rooms in the second and third years are small for 2-3 hostels but the rest are fine. The mess is decent.

The whole admission journey was quite a ride. First, there's the JEE Mains, where over a million students tried their luck. I had my eyes set on IIT Bombay from the start because of all the amazing things I'd heard about it. But to land a spot, you've got to be in the cream of the crop, the top 0.5 percentile in the JEE Advanced. Josaa, who was in charge of the seats, made the allocation process smooth. Looking back, getting into IIT Bombay was the best thing that happened to me. The admission journey was tough, but it opened doors to some incredible opportunities.
