What Students Say
Likes
- Placements offered are excellent, especially for CSE.
- Seniors are probably the biggest assets here. They are very supportive and properly guide us, often at the cost of just a simple appeal.
- Clubs are active and interactive, and offer opportunities for personal and professional growth.
Dislikes
- Infrastructure here isn't adequate. The college has yet to have an auditorium.
- Faculty are not very considerate. Scoring marks is not easy.
- 75% attendance criteria is one of the biggest thorn in the flesh for students.
Course Curriculum Overview
I chose engineering because I am passionate about it, and see a promising career in the field. The faculty here are decent in their teaching, and the majority of them hold PhD qualifications. One professor is responsible for a class of 125 students. While they are supportive, the evaluation standards are rigorous. Their teaching methodologies, however, may not cater to every student's needs. Academics here is fairly challenging; you'll have to start studying 2-3 weeks prior to score good.
Internships Opportunities
Internship opportunities are plentiful. Summer internships are available at the end of 4th semester, and a good chunk of students do grab them. Several giants including Atlassian, Amazon, Adobe provide internships to students. PPOs are also offered.
Placement Experience
Students are eligible for campus placements from 7th semester onwards. Companies like Amazon, Atlassian, Tata steel, Adobe, Paytm visit here. Atlassian was our top recruiter this year, offering a package of 83LPA to six students. Overall average package stands at 16LPA. Overall placement is close to 95%.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fees for any course here is around 2.2 LPA. Hostel and Mess fees are 30000 and 34000 (per year) respectively. There are many scholarships available also like NSP,FFE,E-KALYAN, and a lot more. Many others are available specially for girl students as well. Financial assistance is also available. Being a first year student, I haven't had a campus job right yet.
Campus Life
The campus life is pretty enjoyable. Campus is rich with greenery. There's a Central Library well-equipped with most of the course books. The main cultural fest is Culfest, which is held in the month of February. Urja, the annual sports fest is conducted in November, and Ojass, the annual technical fest is conducted in April. The classrooms here are among the best ones out there - spacious, air-conditioned, and well-maintained. Sports facilities are sufficiently good; with dedicated playing area, equipments and teams for all the major sports including badminton, cricket, football, hockey, table tennis, lawn tennis, chess, basketball, vollyball. Clubs and social groups are plentiful, with each ones excelling at their domains. PCON, LDS, QuNITe, Phocus, Invicta and FACES are among the most reputed and sought after.
Hostel Facilities
Double occupancy rooms are allotted for first year male students at the time of physical reporting. Rooms are small with a pair of beds, a pair of cupboards, a table, a fan, a tubelight, and a window. Meals are provided four times a day in the hostel mess; menu is diverse but quality is below par.
Admission
To get admitted in the undergraduate courses at NIT Jamshedpur, one must i.) have a minimum of 75 % in boards with PCM as their core subjects ii.) appear in the JEE-Mains Examination, and clear the required cutoffs. The cutoffs vary depending on the category of students; seats are reserved for GEN-EWS, SC, ST, OBC and PWD. Once you get your score, you have to apply for counselling through JoSSA to get a seat. The dates of the JEE-Mains Examination is announced by the NTA(National Testing Agency) and you can apply for the same from the official website of the NTA itself.
