Remarks
Good is that course is not very burdensome. Mess food is not very good, very faculties don't know about their subjects and cancel classes most of the time. But 95 % of them are good only
Entrance Preview
I took the entrance exams of 10 best economic colleges. I cleared few of them and chose to be a part of Madras School of Economics. I opt this college as it offered a balance between research curriculum and skills required to be part of the corporate world. The placement records were very good. Lastly, it is located in the center of the city with lush green and peaceful environment close to Anna Centenary library. I belong to Delhi, I always dreamed of staying in Chennai which has beaches and people are very educated and cultural, which makes it safe and better place to live in. Its been 4 years and I am still in love with the simplicity of this city. Hence Madras School of Economics was surely my cup of cake
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum is relevant but not burdensome. It helps you to learn about new things in depth but at the same time you get free time to work on self-project/research and offer you opportunities to work with researcher and faculties Here they offer specialization in basically five courses- General Economics, Financial Economics, Applied Quantitative Finance, Actuarial Economics, Environmental Economics
Internships Opportunities
The placement organize interview for internship. The college does not specifically offer internship but one can get chance to research under the supervision of their faculty
Placement Experience
The placement and job opportunities are really great. More than 90% students get placed. The average package is between 7-14 lakh per annum. The placement season happens in November, December, and January. The placement cell contact companies and make arrangements for interviews and other rounds. They help you to make a better resume, they also share information on the companies which can be approached off campus. And even after you become alumni, you still can access your mails where faculty share about exciting research/job opportunities
College Events
We have a small campus but diverse crowd, most of the students stay inside the hostel. We celebrate all the festivals together, cricket and football tournament, cleanliness and green drive etc. There is a magazine cell, which organizes a competition for best article
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fee structure is quite feasible. The General Economics fees are the most reasonable. Otherwise for other courses- total fees including tution fee, mess fee, hostel fee amount to 3-3.5 lakh for two years.
Fees and Financial Aid
I am not aware of the same. There were scholarships for toppers
Campus Life
The campus life is pretty chill. The campus is small, and most students stay in the hostel and know each other closely. The students are very proactive so they organize best article competition, debates on economic subjects and current affairs, quiz etc. They invite economists to come and deliver a speech.
Alumni/Alumna
The alumni network is quite strong. The alumni information is stored on college website. So one can see the list of companies and name of the individuals who work in those. Also they share about job openings in their companies on our mails. Professors too share about job and research opportunities over the mail. So one always remain active
Exam Structure
The exam structure is not very hectic. There is a CGPA system. The exams are subjective. So if one listen to the faculty nicely, they can easily score the good marks and focus on other things. The exam questions are not picked from a book, the professors themselves create the questions and check on students understanding
Admission
The forms were available online and I filled the entrance exam fee after some time i received my roll number and exam centre then first round was entrance exam round which was conducted in Delhi itself Second short listed candidates were invited for counselling round and on the basis of their score, various courses were offered in a order. Third, now they have added a interview round to check the economic base Fourth, enroll in course and then classes were started after two months
Faculty
The faculty staff consists of guest lecturers from various part of the world, researchers, permanent teachers. Most of them have done Ph.D. and are experts in their particular field. They share their research areas and are quite approachable to get help on some personal project and also offer opportunities to assist them in their projects. They give real-time assignments which help you to gain software knowledge and also to learn techniques which are used in business life.
