Course Curriculum Overview
The reason behind my choosing Civil Engineering was Buildings. Constructing models and miniatures always intrigued me and thus I chose this course. The faculty-student ratio at our college is 1:10. The teachers are well-educated and highly experienced in teaching. They do not leave a stone unturned to clear your doubts. Exams here are conducted twice in one semester the Mid-Sem and the End-Sem with a gap of a month or so between them.
Internships Opportunities
Many companies such as Microsoft, P&G, Oracle, and BPCL come here to provide students with internship opportunities to students in their pre-final year. The highest stipend offered in our college is 2L per month and the average stipend is 35k per month.
Placement Experience
A student becomes eligible for campus placements in their pre-final year. Companies such as Microsoft, Oracle, Deloitte, Barclay's, Amazon, and many more come here every year for placements of students from different departments. The highest package offered is 50LPA and the average package is 13LPA offered in our Institute. The percentage a students getting placed varies from department to department. Not all students opt for placements, some go for higher studies, others prepare for government jobs and some venture out into the world with their startups.
Fees and Financial Aid
If your family income is below 5LPA then you are eligible to avail fee waiver where your tuition fees will be wavered off. If not then the average fee for the BTech programme is 8L. I was not eligible for any scholarship and thus don't have much say in it.
Campus Life
Here at NITR, there are four Fests conducted every year namely: The INNOVISION-The Technical Fest in November, COSMOPOLITAN-The multi-ethnic Fest held in January, NITRUTSAV-The Literary and Cultural Fest held in February and VRIDDHI- The Sports Fest held in April. The Biju Pattnaik Library is one of the biggest libraries in Odisha with over 86,000 books, e-journals, and more than 18,000 back volumes of periodicals for the benefit of students. The classrooms are well equipped with smart class projectors, speakers, AC, and microphones. There are many InterNIT sports meets organized to encourage students to take up sports. The MONDAY MORNING is the official student media body of NITR solely run by the students of NITR.
Hostel Facilities
In the first year, all boys are allowed the VS Hall of Residence(double occupancy) and are later allocated to different hostels. Whereas all the girls are allocated in CVR (single and double Occupancy) and KMS (single, double, triple, and quadruple Occupancy). The rooms have bedding depending upon the number of occupancy, a bulb, a fan, a table, and an almirah. The quality of mess food is passable though there is always room for improvement. It's up to the student to opt. They can either be a hosteller or a day scholar as per their needs. If you opt to be a hosteller you have to pay extra hostel, mess, and medical fees.
Admission
The admission process of my institute involves a nationally recognized entrance exam namely JEE Mains(Joint Entrance Exam). To be eligible for the exam one to pass the 12th or an equivalent exam with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as mandatory subjects.
