Remarks

Scb medical college is a premium institution in odisha.its curriculum, facilities and curriculum is really good. There is some improvementa required in teaching process and laboratories.Admisstration is also very good.Still need so much improvement.

Entrance Preview

I have scored 540 out of 720 in Neet 2016 and with a state rank 67 and all India rank 2414. lt is the no 1 and reputed college in odisha.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

As it was my dream to become a doctor in future I opt for MBBS course. It was the toughest course .It is mainly practical and research orientated. But in developing countries like India medical colleges are not so well developed. It has not a well developed laboratory for research purposes and safety precautions are also not available.

Internships Opportunities

Yes it provides internship of 1 year after completing the final year.It is the best method to gain some clinical knowledge and skill. But the stipend given for intern was too low.Overall experience is good though.

Placement Experience

3.5

The placement and job opportunities are awesome because too much doctors are required in these periods.Almost all are recruited immediately after completing the course. Some students also opt for PGs and higher studies. As it is the most reputed college in Eastern India ,all students find it very easy to get jobs in good hospitals with huge salaries.

College Events

2.5

There are not so much festivals , functions and ceremonies in medical colleges as compared to engineering colleges.Though annual functions are celebrated really in a extraordinary way.And there is cultural and clinical fests .And we also celebrate the world doctors day, aids day , diabetes day etc in our campus. Many students including me participate in the events voluntarily.

Fee Structure And Facilities

As it is a government medical college it is not so expensive as compared to private medical colleges.Yearly expenses grossly 1lakhs which includes hostel fees 10000 per year , readmission fees 30000 per year, and mess fees 36000 per year and the books and stethoscope and other surgical instruments cost 10000 .But not so expensive though.

Fees and Financial Aid

There is various kind of loans and scholarships are available for poor students. I could not get the scholarship as my family income was more than the required criteria. Many private and government scholarship and loans are also available.

Campus Life

5

Extracurricular activities includes sports ,drama ,fests etc.Campus is always crowed 24 hours with patients.30% girls and 70% boys. Workshops and clinical paper presentation are held each month.we are like a family here and no such things as sex , religion or race matters .most students are from odisha. some are also from other states.Politics is absolutely absent . Economically most of students are middle class and higher class. There is competition in every field here. But all students are very cooperative.

Hostel Facilities

5

Hostels are really good and well developed with high speed internet accessibility. The hostels are very spacious and rooms are also big.Mess is managed by a private company and it is very good .All students are allowted in hostel though one can stay as day scholar.3 students share a single room. Services are also excellent.hostel fees 10000 per annum.mess fees 3000 per month .

Alumni/Alumna

The seniors are really good and we learn so much from them . senior junior interaction is very good and it is very helpful. We have also in communication with other medical colleges of our state.

Exam Structure

The exams are really discomforting .The MBBS course is really tough and the exams are toughest. There are so much exams like part complition tests ,semesters ,MBs ,clinical exams , practicals and vivas. And the students have to get 50% marks to pass in each paper individually. There are very frequent exams and they leave us with a hectic way.

Admission

First I apply for Neet examination via online in December. Then in may month the examination was held and I scored a very good rank. Then I apply for online choices of colleges and scb medical college was my first preference. Then through the admission was processed in September month and I got a seat in my dream college. The administration was good though dates are not clearly indicated.

Faculty

4

The faculties are very much qualified though teaching standard was not so good.More no of professors, tutors and clinical guides are required. The professors are not in the teaching mood as they are earning much more money through clinics. So the students have to study themselves.Teachers are not cooperative.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The curriculum is well organized by the authorities based on the latest medical aspect of our society. Practical classes and regular postings in hospital helps in better understanding. Being the only hospital in nearby cities, our hospital provides us a good exposure to varity of cases. Our Associate proff and HODs also look upto them and help us gain more real world experience. The best aspect of this field or if I have to say Why have I chose it is to serve the society. Absence of well qualified doc at the times of emergency is one of the leading causes of mortality in developing countried like India. Being in this profession, I just want to help people around me.
