Remarks
Good 1. The infrastructure and green campus, 2. Well equipped library. 3. Good hostel facility and awesome LAN. 4. Good cultural atmosphere. Bad 1. Faculty not very enthusiastic. 2. Less practical knowledge. 3. No robotics lab and lacks some other labs to. 4. Placements average not very great. In conclusion I would if you can get into good colleges like IIT and NIT and have enough money to go to Manipal Bangalore than GBU is not for you, but if things are not working very great at the moment and you need a good government college where you can study on your own and is near companies in the NCR than GBU is for you.
Entrance Preview
Gautam Buddha University (“GBU”) is a government university located in Greater Noida, Gautam Buddha Nagar district. Uttar Pradesh, India. It is one of Uttar Pradesh’s State Govt. University which commenced its first academic session in the year 2008,and since than it has conducted its own examination every year. One can register for the exam on their official site. I got 70 marks out of 100, on the entrance test and was able to enroll for the integrated dual degree program of Btech+Mtech in Computer Science Engineering. I opted for the college because of the infrastructure and facilities that the university provided at a much lower cost than other private colleges. You get a single room with bed, table chair high speed LAN and a bed. Also the university teaches Buddhist courses and has a meditation dome for meditative practices.
Course Curriculum Overview
Currently Admissions are open for courses like (B.Tech-M.Tech/MBA), (B.Arch), (BBA-MBA), (BA-LLB), (M.Sc), (MA), (M.Phil), MPPG and (PhD) . The course structure for Btech+Mtech in CSE is a lot more theoretical and less practical. Students must make their own effort like organizing code challenges and practicing competitive programming questions to get a better technical advancement in their careers. The course structure is almost same for all the engineering students for the first 2 years with chemistry, physics in successive semesters and maths in all the 4 starting semesters. In Mtech CSE students have a choice to either take Software Engineering or Intelligent Systems and Robotics as their Mtech branch. But their is no robotics lab till date.
Internships Opportunities
None. The Corporate Relations Cell is still not well equipped to provide internships to students, infacts only this year 2017 me and my fellow students have formed a collaborative placement team to ensure students get internships and placements this year. The placements have been 100% since previous year, since Navaid Zafar Rizvi Sir took over, who is a very dedicated individual.
Placement Experience
The Corporate Relations Cell worked to ensure 100% placements for students in the year of 2016 with an average package of 4 lakhs p.a. and a highest package of 11 lakhs p.a. Although the CRC is making a lot of effort to get students placed but still no top companies like Google and Facebook have come for campus placements. The CRC is a small team of faculty teachers who work with students to to coordinate placements in the university. Their is still lack of a good student union and a strong alumni network, which is starting to grow but needs help from the state government to grow at a required rate to ensure students can get better placements.
College Events
Cultural event - Abhivyanjana with dancing, singing, fun games, activities and star night. The cultural events can be broadly classified into competitions, festivals, workshops and celebrity shows. The committee aims to bring out talent in the student community in all the possible forms whether its music, dance, theatre, literary skills, sketching or other fine artstyles. In order to showcase these talents various competitions like 'Sangeet Sandhya', 'Dance Nite', 'Drama Nite', 'Rangoli' are calendared through out the year. The committee organizes various festivals like Janmashtami, Dussera, Diwali, Holi, Ganesh Chaturthi, Id, Christmas along with few regional festivals like Ugadi and Lohri. This helps to sensitize all towards the wide spectrum of beliefs which have harmoniously coexisted in India and spreading the message of peace and brotherhood which have transpired since ages through these festivals. To enrich the students with various hobbies such as in theatre, dance, instrumental and vocal music, art etc workshops are conducted which act as a platform nurturing budding talent. Sports event - Shouryautsav for all the sports tennis, cricket, 1500m, etc. The Sports complex has three Badminton courts and four table tennis tables. Resources for other indoor games like carroms, chess are also available. There are two basketball courts and two volleyball courts adjacent to the football & cricket ground. The students in GBU are divided into groups know as GBU leagues which compete with each other every weekend in all sports activities. The college teams of Football, Basketball, Volleyball and Cricket participate in various local and national level tournaments.
Fee Structure And Facilities
It is quite feasible, my fee was only 1.39 lacs including hostel fee of 40,000 and 25,000 mes charges and 84,000 academic fee. I think the total fee now is around 1.50 lacs for the whole year which has 2 semesters. Overall expenditure is much less and most of the basic necessities and be bought at the shopping complex.
Fees and Financial Aid
The only scholarship given by the university is for the students whose house income is below 2 lacs p.a. and each year students must fill for the scholarship after paying the year fees, from which the scholarship amount is returned if granted.
Campus Life
The gender ratio varies around schools i.e. in school of engineering there are less no. of girls, while there are more girls than boys in School of Biotech, Vocational and ICT. Extracurricular are always lighting the university days, the university organises many events under direction from UGC and MHRD like the recent one was a 15 day event Swacchta Pakhwada which had many small events like elocution, essay competition and swacch campus abhiyan. the music and dance events are always there as the university hosts many national level sports events and invites many guest speakers on current hot topics in the nation.
Hostel Facilities
The hostels are good and are regularly cleaned, the LAN is the best with speeds up to 20 Mbps and each student gets his own private room So no roommate problems. It is compulsory for every student to stay in the hostel, So there is no concept of day scholars.
Alumni/Alumna
Well there are very few alumni till date, So yeah most of them are helpful and take the time out to come out to the university to teach and answer queries of final year and pre-final year students. The network is not big but the CRC is working to connect most of the students from every field of course that the university offers.
Exam Structure
The first two years are a lot hectic because their are chemistry and physics labs in the second half after lunch and classes from 9:30 a.m. in the morning to 5:30 p.m. in the evening, and also their is 75% attendance compulsory. After 2nd year the curriculum is much chilled and easy to cope with. Their is a mid semester exam after 2 months of the start of the semester which amounts for 25% of the result and their their is a final semester exam which amounts to 50% of the result, the other 25% is given by the teacher on the basis of student assesment.
Admission
I took the Gautam Buddha University Entrance Test in 2013, which is conducted by the university itself. As I got through I enrolled for the Btech + Mtech integrated course at the School of Information and Communication Technology. We were supposed to bring the registration slip to the School of ICT and that after full year fee payment, we are given a registration pass to take a room at our respective hostels. In the hostel your registration slip photocopy is submitted and till your ID's are issued these registration slips act as your ID's. After classes commence we have to go to Dr. B R Ambedkar University Library to collect our ID's.
Faculty
In the faculty there is a mix of academic people from all over India, but the best faculty at large is of School of vocational science and of School of Biotechnology, where teachers are very qualified with a good amount of published books and research papers. School of ICT has teacher's which have less practical experience in programming and software development. The School of engineering also has a good guided faculty for mechanical and electrical engineering.
