Course Curriculum Overview
My course is BTech Computer Science Core. The main reason why I chose this particular course was the amount of opportunities this field provides in the future with almost everything around us becoming technologically advanced. The college boasts of PhD faculty having immense expertise in their respective fields. You can expect a 100:1 student: faculty ratio. The faculty has so far been okayish in terms of teaching as the classes were going in online mode due to accommodation issues in the hostel. Talking about the exams. There are midterms which are taken on the basis of half the chapters in the syllabus and then there are end-term exams which have the full syllabus. These have moderate level difficulty and only attending class and doing class questions is not enough to score well. You will have to practice extra questions from other sources as the professors only practice a few questions during class and move on to the next topic.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fee structure is based on fee category methods. In VIT, there are a total of 5 fees categories starting from category 1 which has a tuition fee of 2 lakh rupees and the next categories have a 1 lakh hike. so for category 2, it is 3 lakh, category it is 4 lakh and so on till cat 5 which is 4.5 lakh.
Campus Life
College life is decent as the campus is still undergoing the construction of hostels and other academic wings. The annual techno-cultural fest named Advitya is conducted in the month of January. Advitya is the biggest fest of the college and boasts of several tech-related as well as cultural sub-fest that are held during the day's long fest. Apart from Advitya, the clubs of the college keep organizing various events which students can register and attend. There is a central library which has access to almost all course-related guides, fictional, literature, magazines, etc. The classrooms are equipped with state-of-the-art projectors through which teachers are able to teach more efficiently. There is a big scope in the field of sports as well as the college has indoor basketball, volleyball, and badminton courts. There is a football field as well.
Hostel Facilities
The hostel comprises of 2, 3, 4, 6, 8 bedded rooms which students are alloted based on a particular criteria. The boys hostel has a good quality mess where decent food is served. The college will hold a hostel allotment proccess where you will be asked to fill in your preference of type of room After which you will be alloted the best room in your preference based on the criteria the college is using for the allotment process.
Admission
Eligibility for admission was through the VITEE exam. I had to register for the exam beforehand and appear for it at my allotted centre and take the exam online mode. The application form was available on the official website of VIT University and it cost me around 100 rupees for the application. The application form was opened for us around mid-April. Results were declared online and we got to know about our respective ranks only. VIT takes admission through a fee category system based on the scored rank. Higher rank, higher category for the main branch of VIT. But for a particular range of rank, you will be given the option of a higher category course at the main University or a course of your choice in the lower fee category at other branches of the college depending on your rank. One improvement I would like to suggest is that VIT be fully transparent in declaring results as the University does not disclose the answers or the answer sheet of the students. Direct rank achieved is informed.
