Course Curriculum Overview

4

I chose Btech in biotechnology specifically as coming from a medical background it came naturally to me, my interest in microbiology and genetic engineering, secondly the scope of the course goes beyond our country and is widespread across many continents, research as well as industrial jobs are plentiful and high paying and also unlike the IT sector, it's not oversaturated. On campus, we have approx 35-40k students including those pursuing PhD, Bsc, Msc, and 4-year Btech courses. As a result, the student-to-teacher ratio is relatively high, and there is fierce competition for securing a particular faculty member. However, all the faculty on campus hold PhD degrees, and many of them have multiple patents. We are predominantly taught in English, thus removing the language barrier. Moreover, the teaching style incorporates the whiteboard and presentations thus making learning very exciting. Exams are fairly easy to pass and are CAT exams every two months and end sem FAT's after 6 months.

Internships Opportunities

4

A total of 709 internship offers have been offered out of which 347 are super dream internships and 318 were dream internships and 44 were regular internship offers. Around 140 students have been Pre-Placement offers and recruiters like Fidelity Investments, HPE CTY, JP Morgan And Walmart Labs offered internships

Placement Experience

4

Some of the top recruiting companies are Cisco, CodeNation, Microsoft, and Walmart Labs. The companies that appear consistently throughout the years at the campus include Microsoft, Amazon, SAP Labs, Qualcomm, Texas Instruments, VMWare and Wells Fargo. The students become eligible for campus placements from the 7th sem onwards. The internship opportunities start from the 5th semester onwards. Placement Statistics for the year 2022-2023: No. of companies visited: 904 Average CTC offered: 9.23 LPA Around 74 per cent of the batch students have been placed in their respective companies.

Fees and Financial Aid

Vit is a very costly college but still less so, compared to other similar private institutions, There is a fee hike policy in place that hike the fees every semester. It mostly applies not to the tuition fees but to the miscellaneous stuff like mess fees, hostel fees etc. The hike would be around 7-10k every sem. Generally, the shops in and around the campus are pretty affordable with enough available in terms of street food and packaged food as well as proper restaurants and messes, you can take approx 1-2k per month of expenditure on yourself. I got around 6k rank and didn't qualify for any scholarship, you have to be in the top 50-100 in order to be eligible for a waiver in the tuition fees. Being a fresher, I haven't really reached the point of attending interviews or getting job offers, but there is a constant inflow of internships and projects to keep building up your CV and when the companies do come in the 3rd or 4th year, you'll be completely ready to face them.

Campus Life

4.5

Gravitas is the annual tech fest and is held usually around Oct-Nov and the cultural fest Rivera in March, both of them are one of the biggest Fests in the country with huge events and celebrities coming from all across the globe, I've been part of them and they're truly a spectacle. Coming to our Library, it's a big attraction to many bookworms as our Periyar central library is very huge fully equipped with centralized Ac and a wide variety to book from research papers to fiction, and reference books, you'll find it all here. Classrooms are well-ventilated with enough fans and good visibility even from the last desk, moreover, the benches are in good condition and you feel like you're in a premium institution. All forms of sports from tennis, badminton, cricket, football, volleyball etc. are played on campus, we have our own teams and have inter-college matches regularly. I'm in the Alpha Bio cell research club for biotech as well as an international chapter, Sbe as well.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

Hostels are good but they have a monopoly, if you get a good GPA, you get a good hostel, only then can you get an AC room and believe me you need an Ac room. There are almirahs as well as individual shelves to keep your stuff, desks and chairs are provided, in non-ac rooms you get fans and in ac rooms, mostly you get centralized ac. The mess food is generally much better than other colleges, except on certain days, there's good variety and taste as well, especially the breakfast menu is to die for. Hostels are on the pricier side of campus and 2-3 Bed AC rooms can cost you an arm and a leg, stick to 4 bed Acs or Non-ac rooms. Registrations are pretty Streamlined, everything is controlled through our online portal Vtop, and can easily be viewed during the Admission process.

Admission

The admission process was pretty straightforward, I filled in the application form and applied for the physics, chemistry and biology examinations, of VITEEE. As a PCB student in 12th, I was delighted that VIT allowed medical students to apply for a Btech degree. Btech in biotechnology was my backup plan if I couldn't clear NEET. Furthermore, after paying the application fees, it took a while for the examination centre to be announced, I got it in my city itself, rest of everything was pretty streamlined after you write the exam, you wait for the result to be notified and that's a bit nerve-racking but even in the exam centre they have all the cutoffs given, Basically you need to get a rank below 10k to have a chance of getting a good category fee structure and also the first 10k are called for 1st-day counselling. All the application dates, forms and fee information is available in VIT's brochures on their main website.

Students can join job drives from the 7th term. Many firms visit the campus for jobs and offer roles in tech and other fields. The pay varies by firm and role. EEC has a good job rate and gives help for job prep. After my degree, I plan to work in the tech field and grow my skills.

Students are open to campus placements from 2nd year onwards. There are many companies who visit such as Delloite, Accenture, Cognizant, TCS, Amazon, NatWest, Nokia, etc. Highest package offered is 42 lpa and lowest is maybe 2-4lpa. Around 90% of students get placed here. My plans is to get a job through campus recruitment. Currently I got an internship through campus recruitment in Cognizant so the recruitment is quite nice here.

Placement Experience:

One thing I really need to appreciate at CIT is its placement training program. The placement team conducts regular sessions on 1. aptitude 2. coding 3. communication skills 4. group discussions and 5. interview preparation which helped me feel more confident during placements. The trainers were friendly and always encouraged us to improve our skills step by step. They provide continuous guidance and feedback throughout the training process. Mock interviews and one to one assessments helped me to understand my strength and weak areas and I work on improvements . These sessions not only improved my technical and communication skills but also boosted my confidence . The placement training team played an important role in preparing me for career opportunities and industry expectation
