What Students Say

Likes

Safe and secure environment and the junior and senior research fellows are very helpful and learned. Very warm environment. Very nice for self preparation for competitive examinations.
The teachers are very learned and qualified
The atmosphere is welcome and the environment is safe.

Dislikes

The number of PHDs is very small. Not enough senior faculty.
The course can be very hectic sometimes and it can be very daunting at times.
There is not much help related to placements and the number of workshops that the department organises is tiresome.

Course Curriculum Overview

The course provides specialized insight into the field of English Literature. For 150 students there are only around 5 senior professors. JRFs and SRFs are allotted for teaching purposes and solving the queries of students. JRFs and SRFs are UGC NET qualified and senior faculty have completed their Ph.D. The exams MID Semesters are held each semester and the final exams are held at the end of the semester.

Placement Experience

Campus placements are rare and are provided usually in the last semester. Placements are usually regarding content writing and the university has its own placement cell which is not very active for humanities students. The package usually ranges from 12k-15k Only 2-5 out of 150 students get placed. I joined the content writing team of collegeduniya.com after my pg through naukri.com.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fees are affordable as it is a government University and the fee hikes occur seldom. No scholarships, financial assistance, or job acquired on campus. The fee hikes occur every one to two years after the state government's approval.

Campus Life

The fest of the Department of English and Cultural Studies is held in the month of April. The AC JOSHI library provides all the necessary books and journals and the Department of English has its own library. The classrooms have a fan and a blackboard. The seats and infrastructure are not impressive. The university provides various sports activities like swimming and basketball.

Admission

The admission process is through an entrance exam known as PUCET (PG). For applying to M.A. English, the candidate needs to have completed their Bachelor's from a recognized college/university. Numerous companies keep collaborating with the university and many students are placed every year. The minimum value of package is 3.5Lpa and it goes up to 12Lpa depending upon the course and the ability of the students My plan after this degree is to clear the net/jrf because i want to be a professor in my respective subject.

The course curriculum is lengthy and monotonous. It is time consuming and the semesters are short. Usually a semesters lasts for not more than 4 months we get very little time to prepare for our exams. Also the syllabus needs to be updated and changed.

Department of Political Science - An Enthusiastic and Active Arm of Panjab University

Course Curriculum Overview:

The best thing about this curriculum is that it is non very burdensome for us and easy to navigate through. It is well divided into multiple units making it easier to navigate through. For example - there is this course of key concepts in the very first semester which lays foundation for upcoming all semesters. Similarly in the first semester, we are taught Constitution of India laying the basics very clear . I personally choosed this course due to my interest and it's application in almost every competition exam out there. There can be a little bit improvement regarding the introduction of research methodology courses. Since there are no courses yet, it often cause a problem for students who want to pursue PhD in future. The frequency of exams is fine enough as there is a lot of time for us to adjust in the new semester and enjoy all the curricular and co curricular activities without a constant load of examinations all the time. This is the best thing I find.

Remarks:
