Remarks

This college experience taught me a lot about life and how to be independent and take care of myself and maintain discipline and decorum in life. The management still needs to stabilize a lot and keep a distance from its political ownership in a few aspects.

Entrance Preview

CBSE PMT, I had to choose medicine as I come from a family of doctors. When I first reached the college and gave interview etc. it did not hit me that I would be leaving home until I got the admission and completed all the formalities which were not that tedious . Then I had go back home to Delhi to get my stuff and resume classes from the next week.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

The course is extensive and not for everyone who has a problem with blood and rotting cadavers with extremely pungent smell of dead flesh. The course is basic starting from the basic knowledge of the human body in the 1st year about how it works, then the 2nd year is the basic science behind the medicines (Pharmacology)and blood pathology and how various blood tests work and about all the infections plus the chronic conditions (Pathology) and micro organisms which is microbiology and various ways to catch the causative organism and diagnose. Last but not the least is forensic medicine which I don't think I need to explain much as we all know what that's about ( just watch C.S.I) along with these 4 subjects you have to start various postings of clinical in the hospital and see real patients and diseases and how they are being managed and treated. Then comes the 3rd year which constitutes of 1st subject - community medicine or P.S.M which is basically about rural medicine, hazardous occupations etc, preventive measures majorly which should be taken in order to avoid diseases, vaccines and data with statistics etc. Then is your 2nd subject which is ophthalmology-eye specialization, I think it's self explanatory again. 3rd Subject of the 3rd year is ENT-Ear Nose Throat or otolaryngology - again its self explanatory, all these 3 subjects are with regular clinicals and completely hospital based learning. The 4th and Final year starts with Medicine,Surgery , Gynecology and Pediatrics, now this is the IT year which makes you or breaks you and you decide your specialization if you want to do it.

Internships Opportunities

The college did have its own internship program which was very basic as there were no super specializations which I was interested in so I took a transfer to my home town Delhi to get a better exposure. Stipend was meager so I rather not talk about that.

Placement Experience

0.5

In our field there are no placements or opportunities when you get out of the college. You have to find a job yourself and keep on preparing for a PG exam to do a specialization when you qualify. Doctors are the least paid amongst all the professionals in the industry of any job profile which takes engineers or IT professionals on their skill and qualification. So obviously packages are not even enough to run a house, when I started my first job I was not even paid as much as a plumber would make in a month which was 2 or 3 times my salary. Getting a corporate job at Fortis or Max is the best thing you could hope for.

College Events

0.5

There used to be one major cultural festival that used to happen at our college every year which was the Ganesh Chaturthi Festival. Always it would come around September and go on for a week where there would be different programs every night rangings from traditional nights to singing and talent shows to plays being enacted fashion shows and the festival would end with the Dahi Handi. During the festival our college campus would look like a amusement park with the kind of decorations etc.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Fee structure is expensive starting from 2 lac a year to 5 lac a year depending on your category and quota. Fee structures were decided by your rank in the initial years when I joined this college but later on it became more of a business with NRI seats, although I was also on a management seat but still it has become more money oriented in these recent years. I wish that India could do away with the reservation system for everyone deserving to get a chance.

Fees and Financial Aid

No I don't think so nor did they have any such program. Or I wasn't aware of that may be. It was a private college with hardly any affiliations so there was no grant that would ascertain a scholarship.

Campus Life

3

There was a 60:40 ratio of male to female students. There was no gender discrimination but yes I found some people were racist and discriminating towards North Indians especially from Delhi. Culture was Maharashtrian mostly and 70% students belonged to the state only. Sports were limited to inter college cricket matches mostly, no other sport was given importance till I was in there. Cultural societies were only one which was the Ganesh Festival society and that's about it, though boring I know but most of the medical students don't have time to socialize or do much extracurricular activities.

Hostel Facilities

1

Hostel facilities during my time at the college were non-existent in the college almost except for 1st year we would live in a bungalow which would accommodate 30 students. The mess was a nightmare with lizards and cockroaches swimming in the food , it was during 2004-2010 so I don't know what's status now.

Alumni/Alumna

Colleg seniors while some of them were assholes but I found a few and be friended them for life. There was obvious ragging and other stuff amongst fights etc. but it was all what college is about. Some of the seniors were really helpful during exams they would give points on how to score marks and how to perform in practicals and all. Alumini I hardly get to meet as I live in Delhi and for me to go back to Nagpur I do not get time with this profession. It's been a while since I have taken a vacation even.

Exam Structure

Exams are basic like first theory and then practicals after a few days. And being a medical student you can hardly think of chilling out as the books or syllabus is never ending. Exams were frequent and we used to have them atleast once a month. Hectic doesn't even come close to the kind of day you would have from 9-5 .You can chill out once you have completed and passes your final year.

Admission

I got the form from a bank as most people at that time did and filled it and sent it. Now the process has changed couple of times over and over. The call I got was directly from the college via post and had to show up for a face to face at a certain date. The admission process was very smooth as my interview with the principal went very well. At that time the administration etc all was very limited in space and no., later on things drastically changed although.

Faculty

4.5

The faculty of the college was very good, learned, experienced, and lastly strict as well. Obviously most of our peers and heads of departments had various degrees and diplomas but they were still focused that what they teach should stay with you and you have to perform in order for them to evaluate you. I think it takes a lot a patience being a doctor/surgeon and to teach along with the professional practice.
