Course Curriculum Overview
After finishing my BBA which gave me theoretical knowledge about the business world MBA would help me grow in practical aspects and prepare me for the industry. The faculty-student ratio at IIM Sirmaur is about 1:50, although students can interact with any faculty they want. The faculties are approachable and helpful. Most faculties have PHD in their respective fields, and case based approach is used for teaching. The examination schedule is provided right at the start of the academic year. There is a midterm to be given after one and a half months of the term and an end term to be given at the end of the 3rd month of the term. The evaluation criteria include class participation, project, individual/group assignments, and presentations. Thus a student must devote time and effort to score good marks.
Internships Opportunities
Various companies visited the campus for summer internships, like ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, Accenture, Daimler, etc. These companies offered a stipend of 40k-80k per month. The project included market research, supply chain management, human resource manager, etc. The internships added a lot of value to the student, helping them understand the working of the business world.
Placement Experience
The final placements begin in the fourth semester. Last year 140 companies visited the campus and made almost 200 offers. The average package was around 13 Lakh, while the highest package was 26 Lakh. 100% of the students that participated in college placement got placed.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fee is around 16 Lakh for batch 2025. However, financial assistance like bank loans is readily available for students at a reasonable interest rate. I did not take any scholarships, but various scholarships from the Institute are available for SC/ST and EWS. There are also a lot of scholarships provided by the government and corporates. Although the fee is high, the ROI is excellent because of the high average CTC.
Campus Life
The annual fest is called Sierra and is conducted in March. Other than the annual fest, various clubs and committees organize multiple events throughout the year. The library provides access to many books, newspapers, digital articles, and newspaper subscriptions. Classrooms have access to high-speed internet and charging ports. Sports events are conducted throughout the year, which include outdoor and indoor sports like cricket, football, table tennis, chess, etc. All the clubs and cells are student-run and organize multiple events for student interest, like dance competitions, singing, and much more. Moreover, once the permanent campus is ready campus life at IIM Sirmaur will be no less than any other top B-school.
Hostel Facilities
The hostel rooms have table fans and study tables for each student separately. The mess food is fresh and is not repeated throughout the week. The hostels are included with the MBA fees, and each student must stay in the hostels provided by the institute only. Although there are PGs available at affordable rates for PhD students. The cost of living in the town is also low.
Admission
The eligibility for the course is only to have completed a bachelor's degree in any field. The entrance exam required for MBA at IIM Sirmaur, just like all other IIM and most B-schools, is the Common Admission Test (CAT). The application form for CAT is available at the official website of CAT, which is opened around August every year for the examination in November last week. The application fee is to be paid only for CAT, which is 2200 rs. for the general category. The admission process is quite simple, as one can apply for all the IIMs together in one place.
Interview Experience
The admission process included CAT to test the aptitude of the applicant. The candidates are shortlisted for interviews based on their CAT scores, academics, and education diversity. The interview was part of the SAP process, and the questions included current affairs and general knowledge. One of the questions asked to me was about the REPO rate and how it works. I prepared for the interview with the help of my coaching institute, where I studied for the CAT.
