Remarks
The college management was very supportive and they did their best to keep students engaged.
Entrance Preview
The college offers honors courses which give more precedence to the degree. There was no entrance exam, the college accepts students on merit.
Course Curriculum Overview
The curriculum focused on all aspects of management, which was good for students who wanted to do MBA in future and join the senior management of a company. There was less scope for research which was only taken up in one semester and there was not much scope for writing original research papers which would have been a good exposure.
Internships Opportunities
No, the college did not provide or encourage internships during the course. Adding this to the curriculum would have been very beneficial for students.
Placement Experience
Since this is a bachelors course and Bcom is not a professional degree there is not much chance for job placements. Most students immediately move on to a masters course after which they get placed. Mostly BPOs and sales profiles came to recruit at very minimum packages.
College Events
The college has a series of events for cultural and sports. The cultural event is held along with the annual function of the college. The sports events are spread out throughout the year and tournaments are held. Matches are held between departments and they compete against each other.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Since this is a government college the fees for students who enter on the merit list is extremely feasible. For other students, it can prove to be expensive. The college also offers scholarships for students with need and for those who make it to the merit list.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fees are very affordable but the college does offer scholarships to students who make it to the merit list and have a need for financial assistance. There is no loan facility, students have to make arrangements for that on their own.
Campus Life
Campus life is mostly oriented towards academics - there is a good mix of people from different backgrounds, a good mix of genders. Since the college does not cater to a lot of research there is not much investment in labs but there are workshops conducted for students of different departments.
Hostel Facilities
I did not stay in the hostel so I cannot comment on the quality of the hostel facilities but they do include all the basic necessities students might need. The security is also well in place to keep students safe. The mess food was good, although the menu was fixed and did not change. The place was kept clean and the food was prepared in hygienic conditions. There were also other stalls in the campus catering to student needs.
Alumni/Alumna
There is no alumni network for the students and they are not active in connecting once the course is over. One can still be in touch with students through social media.
Exam Structure
The exam structure is intensive including external exams as well as internals. There are regular tests conducted by the teachers every month for every subject and regular assignments given as well which add up to the GPA of the student. However, there is more stress on theory and less on practical understanding and implementation of management strategies.
Admission
The college makes a merit list of applicants and there is a cut-off list which lets them know who has been accepted. When I was taken in the cutoff was 85% which meant that some of the best students were taken in for the course. There is also a counseling session for students before the final intake.
Faculty
The faculty was very qualified and had extensive knowledge in their respective fields. They taught well but I felt that reference to case studies from different industries, on job training and internships and visits to business houses should also have been included in the teaching methodology. But overall it was a good experience.
