Remarks

The college has a lot of scope for improvement in terms of infrastructure and better faculty. My experience in the college was good overall.

Entrance Preview

There is no entrance exam for M.Sc in Biotechnology. Admission is solely based on Graduation marks.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

The structure of the course is as per the Mumbai University as the syllabus is provided by them. However, the extra resources that a college should provide was lacking here. The proper guidance for future prospects was not given very well. As far as M.Sc is concerned, the field is only research oriented so one has to be constantly updated and the college should equally contribute to it. But that contribution is a little lacking here.

Internships Opportunities

No, the college does not provide any internship. However, they help out in finding an internship outside.

Placement Experience

1.5

The college does not provide any kind of placement. The students have to find a job on their own. The faculty will only guide you. The job opportunities after doing M.Sc are there but then the pay is not really that great. This is kind of demotivating and hence people tend to change their career path.

College Events

4

The college events are really good. Each department has their own festival and also there is an overall college fest. The level of college fests is quite good, it is very entertaining and the number of students coming in for the fests is also high. This college is well-known for its status as they have Bollywood celebrities coming every here during festivals.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fees of M.Sc Biotechnology is noticeably high everywhere as it is a research oriented course so the expenses of the laboratory, its instruments and maintenance has to be beared by the college. The fees here was between 30k - 40k per year. This is slightly expensive. There are other colleges were the fees is lesser than this.

Fees and Financial Aid

I do not have any have idea about this as I did not take any. There must be some provision for scholarship by the college but there is no loan facility provided by the college for sure.

Campus Life

2.5

There are competitions going on in college for most of the courses. For M.Sc students there are only fests. Also, M.Sc students do not get as much time as they have to be in the laboratory most of times and slog. The gender ratio was good in college. The college environment is also peaceful. Not much politics happening.

Hostel Facilities

1.5

The college does not provide hostel facilities. The students have to find accommodation on their own outside college. The canteen of the college is bad. The food served is very average. Very few items are available here. The price of the food is low.

Alumni/Alumna

The college seniors were very supportive and co-operative. M.Sc students have to do an internship as part of the curriculum from outside the college. Finding this internship is really a task but our seniors did help us out in all the possible ways. So that way the seniors were pretty helpful.

Exam Structure

The Exams and practicals were conducted on time and properly. But the instruments are not really upto the mark. M.Sc students have to spend a lot of time in laboratory so yes sometimes it gets hectic. Most of the times the students are engaged in completing journals, making presentations, reading research papers etc.

Admission

The students have to fill the application form and submit. After 1-2 weeks the college puts up upto 2 merit lists depending on the availability of seats. If the student's name is on the merit list he/she can pay fees and take admission in a day or two.

Faculty

3

Overall the faculty is decent. Some professors are really very good in terms of knowledge as well as student-teacher rapport. They would help help whenever required sometimes even at odd timings. On the other hand, some professors are very careless and do not do their job well.

Placements in Fergusson are pretty good. Students are eligible for sitting in the placement drives from the 3rd semester, we also get Pre-placment activities and tests before the drive starts. We get companies like Axtria, Vois , bluepineapple etc on campus. The highest package is 10 - 12 lakhs and 4-6 lakhs on an average. In my batch out of the 30 people we 20 are placed so far on campus.

Placement Experience:

The placements in the GIPE are decent. This year the highest package offered was 18 lakhs per annum by Deloitte and IDFC FIRST Bank. Although the placements are not 100% but it's around 60%. Students need to work hard and score well in aptitude test and they should start the preparation from the second semester onwards so that they can easily manage their end semester exams as well as the aptitude test. The average placement package is around 8-9 lakhs. My plan is to get a corporate job and gain some experience and exposure in the corporate world and learn how the things actually work. Many companies that come to the college are looking for data analytics role. The ratio of the companies looking for consultant, risk analyst is less based on market demand and other circumstances.

Placement Experience:

By the end of sem3 itself, the postgraduates are deployed into interviews for certain internships. But if you are with good academic scores and knowledge you can even get directly placed. Every individual is given 3 chances by the college to get and crack the interview but if the student is not able to then he is guided to where to apply but mostly ICRI makes sure everyone is placed as the college proudly stays with its 100% placement tag line. As I told here there are varied background people here with different needs of roles, the highest package I have seen getting is 15L pa to the lowest of 3L pa which even depends upon the company to your broad spectrum of knowledge. To specify which companies come here for recruitment are sun pharma, Cipla, and many more there are all 20+ companies that come and hire the intellectuals. To specify about me I am planning to get a CRC post as a start for CRA in the future.
