Course Curriculum Overview
One can take admission to B.E. courses via two methods. First directly choosing their preferred BE branch if they satisfy its cutoff. The other way is to take in MSc courses and then after one year based on CGPA students are provided the BE branches. The Mechanical Engineering department is one of the oldest departments in BITS Pilani. The student-Faculty ratio is quite good in BITS Pilani, for every 20 students there is one teacher. Mostly teacher holds Ph.D. from foreign universities and a few other are from IITs. Teachers are quite devoted to research and do not promote remote learning. Every course has a tutorial hour in which tute-test or quizzes take place, at regular intervals.
Internships Opportunities
Intership season is mainly focused on IT sector. Though core branches students get Internship opportunities but it is very less. Apart from this every student has to complete a mandatory paid internship called PS1.
Placement Experience
BITS Pilani campus placements are at par. The average package offered is around 11-12 lakhs. BITS is the only Indian college that gives students chance to confirm their placement in Practice School. It's a bit of initiative in which students are allotted companies on basis of their CGPA and they can work in them to get Pre-Placement offers. Apart from this placement committee of BITS Pilani assures that every student who sits in placement should get placed. The placement percentage is almost 100% as people got placed either through PPOs in summer internships and Practice School and the rest are placed during two placement seasons. More than 250+ companies visit campus giving domestic offers ranging from 8-50 LPA.
Fees and Financial Aid
The only disadvantage of BITS Pilani is the very high fees. But even this is not much of a barrier to students with weak financial backgrounds. Two scholarships are provided to students, namely MCN (Merit cum Need) basis and Merit basis. Students with a family income below 11 lakh can avail of his scholarship very easily.
Campus Life
BITS Pilani's cultural fest OASIS is the second largest fest in India having a footfall of around 20-30K students nationwide. The other fests are the technical fest APOGEE and sports fests BOSM in which teams of various colleges take part. OASIS is conducted in October whereas APOGEE takes place in March-April. BITS Pilani library is again one of the largest in India, giving hundreds of thousands of journals, research papers, and books. Course books can be easily purchased from local vendors or can be bought from seniors at very low prices. All classrooms are air-conditioned with a facility for lecture recording and projector presentation. SAC(Students Activity Club) and GymG(Gymkhana) are places for sports enthusiasts. BITS sports team has won many tournaments in other colleges like IITs, nits, and Rajasthan local colleges like IIIT Kota, RTU, SKIT, etc. Many technical and cultural clubs can be found in BITS like coding club, Consulting, robotics, Film making club, Drama and Dance
Hostel Facilities
Hostel is mandatory for a student in BITS. Single and double occupancy rooms are available, good enough to accomodate a student comfortably. But there is no AC facilities in rooms which make Pilani summers unbearable. Though every hostel has two common rooms, having a cooler to beat summers, Television, Table Tennis and a vending machine for late night cravings. Hostel and mess fees is charged with tution fees and hostel allotment is completely random. Generally freshers and sophomores get double rooms and 3rd and 4th yearites get single rooms. Mess food is just eatable but not as good as home.
Admission
One has to take the BITSAT exam for admission into three campuses of BITS in India, Pilani, Goa, and Hyderabad. The eligibility for BITSAT is a minimum aggregate of 75% in PCM/B and at least 60% in each of Physics Chemistry and Maths/Biology. One can take the BITSAT exam only twice, first in Class 12 (10+2) and then a year after. BITSAT registration announcement is made on their official website www. bitsadmission.com.
