Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

I am in the computer science and engineering branch at NIT ROURKELA. I don't know the exact figure for faculty to student ratio of our college, but I can say that it is good enough compared to many other colleges. The faculty is well-experienced and highly qualified. The quality of the subject given by them is extraordinary. Each teacher has his methods of teaching. The teaching will be fully in English. They always say us about real-world problems and new technologies. Here it is a semester-based system, where you have 2 semesters(each of 4 months) per year. Each semester has 1 mid-semester (in the middle of the semester) and 1 end-semester (at end of the semester) exam. Here the absolute grading system is considered for CGPA calculation. Each subject has the total mark of 100. So to pass the exam we have to get at least 36 /100. So based on it we have to prepare.

Internships Opportunities

4.5

There are two types of internships in my college. 2months and 6 months. 2 months internships are offered in 3rd year which be done in the summer. Many top companies offer this program with a good stipend. Like Microsoft, Google, Oracle, Code Nation, Qualqum, American express, visa, Natwest, etc, We can get the statistics here https://mondaymorning.nitrkl.ac.in/live The selection process will be similar to placements. For it, sector coding and related projects will be tested etc,

Placement Experience

4.5

As NIT ROURKELA is one of the best technical institutes in India and 3rd best in NITs many top companies visit here for placements and internships. In 3rd year we have internship opportunities from many companies with good stipends. These are summer internships which will be for 2 months. The selection process is similar to the placements. If we perform well enough in the internship PPO will be offered. In the 4rth year placement season starts. In the last placement season over 900+ offers were given. The average CTC for CSE is 16 LPA, and for others, it is 12 LPA. In CSE Placement percentage is 100%. After my degree, I don't have any plans for higher studies. So I will go with my placement.

Fees and Financial Aid

When I joined the fee was 99,000 per semester which includes the hostel and mess fee too. there will be some extra fees during admission. Of this 99,000, 62,500 is the tuition fee and the rest is the hostel and another fee. In IITs and NITs, fees will be decided based on our family income. If our family income is less than 1 lack, the tuition fee will become 0rs for that student. So he has to pay only the hostel fee. If our family income is between 1 lack and 5 lacks only 1/3rd of tuition fee+ hostel fee. If our family income is greater than 5 lacks there will be no fee waivers. He/she has to pay the full fee. Scholarships from college will be based on our academic performance. We can also apply in NSP. There are private scholarships like FFE and Reliance foundation. FFE will be based on family income. And Reliance for reliance on both family income and academic performance is considered.

Campus Life

5

NIT Rourkela is the Second largest campus in India after IIT KHARAGPUR. Nit Rourkela is spread our 1300 acres, with lush greenery with many types of trees and birds. The campus itself is very beautiful. The campus life is great. Nit Rourkela is known for sports with all facilities. There are cricket stadiums, football stadiums, basketball, Tennis, badminton, etc, There is also an Olympic-sized swimming pool. The annual sports fest will be held at NIT ROURKELA. There are many clubs and societies here like dance, drama, sports, coding, space, robotics, etc, Almost all the students participate in club activities. There are 3 major fests at NIT ROURKELA. 1) INNOVISION(tech fest) 2) Vriddhi (sports fest) 3) Nitrotsav(Cultural fest) These are held every year. There are also hackathons held here. Here we have a Libra named Biju Patnaik library which is one of the largest among nits. Almost all the books discussed by professors are available here. The classrooms are also great.

Hostel Facilities

4.5

Hostel Life is very good at NITR. For boys, we have 6 hostels 2 for families and couples, and 2 for girls. Every hostel has its badminton courts, Gyms, Common Rooms, Mess, etc, The mess will be good. It takes some time for a South Indian to adjust to these new types of meals. Hostel and mess fees will be included in the semester fee. We don't have to pay it separately. Hostels will be allotted based on our year. In 1st and 2nd years double rooms (2 members per room) will be given and after that single rooms will be allotted. Every room has its LAN port. Internet speed will be good.

Admission

IITs and NITs are the central government-controlled special institutes of India. The admissions for Btech and UG courses are done via JEE only. Jee main is a computer-based exam in which you have multiple-choice questions. Usually, we have 2 sessions for JEE mains. Once in January and the next in April or May. The top 1.5 lack to 2 lack students in jee mains is allowed to write jee advanced. JEE Advanced is conducted by IITs via which admissions for IITs are done. There are around 15,000 seats so to get a seat we have to get in the top 15,000. For NIT's and IIIT's rank in jee mains is considered. To get a computer science seat in top NITs, our rank in jee mains should be under 4000. During my admission NIT ROURKELA CSE cutoff rank for the open category was around 3200. So we have to prepare accordingly.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The curriculum is now updated since it became a University, so its more relevant to industry now but still we have to do extra courses for coding. Exams happen every few months—2 internals and one end-sem. They are not very easy, you actually need to study to pass without backlogs
