Remarks

College Management cares about Academic and Carrier growth of the students. Focus is there on studies and once college finishes, you are not involved in too much of other activities leaving plenty of time for yourself or for self studies. Cultural standards are maintained highly and management also helps you in placements

Entrance Preview

AMU Entrance Exam. Received around 168 out of 250 and chose this college because it was in my hometown

Course Curriculum Overview

4

Course Curriculum is good and in our time it was more theory oriented. Electronics Engineering covered from understanding of Digital and Analog Basics to going till Antenna theory, Communications and Networking and Microprocessors architecture etc. Practicals were lesser but now they seem to have increased focus on Lab work. Notable is the new effort called AMU RoboClub that they have started to created Electronics hands on rather than just theory

Internships Opportunities

Internship availability is based more on the companies visiting. I have seen people getting internships in big companies but some others may not get it at all. Stipends range from 10-25K

Placement Experience

3.5

I think campus and off-campus placement of AMU is decent. Mostly all students find a good job in MNCs or at least services based companies. Salaries offered range from 2 Lac per annum to as high as 15 Lakhs p.a. Companies like TCS, HCL etc. visit the engineering college

College Events

3

Sir Syed Day is standard across AMU. Other than this, Eid, Holi, Diwali, Christmas get good holidays. Extreme party culture is not there but good number of holidays are given to chill at your home There is a college function every year and involves small parties but high, extravagant, music, dance and flamboyance is quite rare.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Fee structure is extremely affordable and many good students without good financial background get access to good education. Fee is actually negligible and food and hostel rent is all very nominal. You can easily complete 4 years of education within 1 Lakh of expense

Fees and Financial Aid

Many scholarships are available at AMU. Minority Scholarships, Economically backward sections scholarships are available other than the merit based ones too.

Campus Life

4

Campus life is not very vibrant and is more of either studious or relaxed types. Gender ratio is quite skewed with more boy students but eve teasing etc are quite rare and cultural values are high. Extracurricular activities are quite limited and labs, sports and competitions are not very frequent

Hostel Facilities

3

Hostels are not that great but not very bad either. They are old but clean. Food is ordinary and sometimes boring too. But options are available to eat outside. Hostels are in plenty but I think not sufficient still for the entire class. PGs are inexpensive in Aligarh with average 2-4K per person and shared room rentals are also frequent. Distances in Aligarh are very less (5 Km. max from University) and students commute by cycles or bikes. Students should look for distance from college, good food availability, electricity back up and internet facilities

Alumni/Alumna

AMU alumni network is spread across the globe. But you have to have good contacts to be able to use help from this. Good relations with professors helps to get connected to Alumni too

Exam Structure

The exams and labs are in Semester system and is more theory oriented. For electronics engineering you have to be decently read to be scoring good.. Some students can manage without studying much with lower grades. Session tests are moderately frequent but exams are only at the semester end

Admission

I appeared for Class 11th Entrance Exam in AMU around May 1997. The application form for this must have been submitted in December 1996. I got good marks in the competition and thus was selected in Class XI of AMU. This helped me in getting through the Engineering Entrance Exam for AMU. Engineering Exam Entrance was filled in December 1998 and exam was held in May 1999. Getting good marks, I got an acceptance to join Electronics Engineering which was among top 2 branches that time

Faculty

3.5

Some faculty are good while others may be ordinary. Traditionally AMU Engineering college is Old School type College. Technology and WiFi entered late. Professors stick to older syllabus at times. Many old professors don't have exposure to new technologies in the market. But things are changing at AMU very quickly. New faculties are being hired. Foreign experience and Industry experience is valued. Consequently new Ideas are being introduced in teaching. Focus is also being given on more hands on learning rather than theory. Also noteworthy is that despite Traditional styles, AMU always get 25-50% of the top GATE positions
