Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

Shyama Prasad Mukherjee college is a full girls college. The average student strength is 60. The department has variety of diversity. Students come from all parts of India. My class had students from Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar, Dehradun, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Bangalore, Varanasi and Delhi offcourse. Every student was very participative in class discussion and practicals. No marks were given on the basis of participation. Yes, students genuinely attended classes as psychology really requires commitment and dedication.

Internships Opportunities

5

Shyama Prasad Mukherjee College's Placement Cell is a student-run organization dedicated to providing students with valuable internship and career opportunities in a variety of professions. It aids in the identification of the recruiter's qualifications for the open position. It serves as a liaison between students and recruiters, ensuring that students get business experience throughout their undergraduate careers. The Bachelor degree in applied Psychology does not include any placement opportunities to students. However it is advisable to find mandatory internships during summers in NGO, hospitals etc to gain practical exposure in the field of Psychology. A master's degree is required to work in this sector. Other courses: There are many companies that visit our college like Amazon, Genpact, Deloitte, KPMG and Samsung etc. Avg CTC: 30000/- monthly.

Campus Life

4

I would rate a 10/10 for the campus environment and infrastructure. The college campus is beautifully built and maintained. 1. Sports: College offers Various sports, Yoga and Gym facilities for the students. Modifications: 2. Campus Building The college features a separate three-story library facility with fully functional computers, study materials, newspaper and magazine clubs, and other amenities that are very helpful to the students. A College-provided library card allows students to issue any book with convience. 3. Auditorium The college also has a big auditorium named as the "Rajiv Gandhi Auditorium." 4. Seminar Rooms The college has a good number of seminar rooms for the students. 5. Hostel The college does not offer a hostel; instead, students can choose the closest PG's or rent an apartment close to the college. The rent is quite reasonable and offers the students complete safety. Students must, however, abide by the guidelines established by the Owners. 6. Mode of transportation Nearest metra station: Shivaji Park (5-7 minutes walking distance from college) Also, students can park their respective vehicle around the campus. 7. Medical facilities The college has a medical room for students. Also, their are Pad vending machines on every floor near washroom for girls. Overall campus life is okay. Students who live in PG's or an rented appartment generally goes to late night clubs near college that are located near Punjabi Bhag. Students staying in PG's have curfews. The environment near the campus is quite safe and secure for the girls. The college has it's cultural fest called "Srijan". Students participate in various competitions held in the fest. Students can perform at the event. Student's from different states all across India are in college.

Hostel Facilities

The college does not offer any hostel facility; instead, students can choose the closest PG’s or rent an apartment close to college. 1. Students have to shift before the semester begins as it gives them time to settle down. Usually two or three students are required to share a bedroom but if not comfortable then they can ask for a separate single bedroom with all the facilities but prices would vary. The conditions of PG's are quite impressive as the owners provide all the facilities and safety to the students. 2. However, the PG’s have facilities like separate sharing bedrooms and three separate beds, study table, an air conditioner and an Almira. The Prices would vary if students can ask for single rooms. The PG’s also have a common living room space with television, music systems etc for the entertainment purpose. The students get freshly home cooked meals three times a day and special birthday celebrations. 3. PG's are only for girls, they have strict rules and regulations. Before 10 p.m, every student needs to be in the PG's and must follow these rules. 4. There are PG's facilities around the campus so parents or siblings can visit but can’t stay overnight since students share rooms. Parents can stay in nearby hotels. Furthermore if any student lives in a rented apartment then it is quite convenient for the family members to stay. 5. The PG’s and apartments are located near the campus. It normally takes 5 minutes of walking to reach the specific destination. P.S. I don't have any pictures and the form isn't moving forward if i don't submit any picture.

Exam Structure

I received 80% in my 12th grade, which made me eligible for admission to SPMC during the third cutoff list in 2020. Currently, Delhi University administers the Central University Entrance Test (CUET) to various courses at participating Central Universities and gives candidates a single window chance to seek admission in these participating Universities / Institutes across the nation. My admission to Shyama Prasad Mukerji College was entirely based on Merit, i.e., on the basis of my 12th standard percentage marks during 2020. Previous to this, Delhi University would provide a cutoff list based on the merit score.

Admission

1. I did not apply to other colleges, and I was just focused on Delhi University for Applied Psychology. 2. I chose Shyama Prasad Mukherjee College for Women, Delhi University for applied psychology because of the diverse range of disciplines available here, including Youth Psychology, Health psychology, Neuropsychology, Clinical and Counselling Psychology, Industrial and Organisational Psychology, Media Psychology, and so on. The teaching staff is diversified and very cooperative with the students. The teachers are highly skilled specialists who are available to help the students whenever they are in need. 3. I did not face any rejection as I was only focused on Delhi University. 4. Admission Process: - Eligibility 1. Any students who has passed 10+2 exams are eligible to apply to Delhi University. 2. In 2020, no additional exams were conducted to be able to get admission to Delhi University. Every year, DU released cutoffs, and anyone who met the cutoff was eligible for admission. Note: Currently an Exam called CUET is conducted to get admission in any DU college.

Students generally get an hour break. Teaching methods: Every faculty member is easily approachable and gives their best while helping the students. Professors are very committed to assisting students by providing one on one sessions, and other resources for students who require extra support. Mainly they motivate the students to reach their full potential by encouraging them with practical knowledge, new ideas and challenging themselves intellectually. Faculty: Most professors hold Doctorate degrees in Psychology and teach the subjects allotted to them. Ms. Namita Tayal teaches Introduction to psychology, Youth Psychology, Neuropsychology etc. Her teaching style mainly focuses on Practical knowledge. She breaks the topic in simple language as it becomes very easy for the students to understand and grasp. She also gives a lot of real life examples to make her class more informative and interesting. Ms Ekta teaches Health psychology and other domains of psychology. She makes her class quite interesting as she focuses on real life examples. She is very helpful and tries her best to make students understand the topics in simpler launguage. There is one professor in my department who rarely attends college. Instead, she will return at the end of the semester to finish the practicals and other required explanations in a rush. Attendance Requirements: Students are required to maintain a minimum attendance of 66% in order to sit in the semester examination.

The ba programe here is little different from other colleges accross the country. The curriculum is quite diversified. If you are intrested in arts , there is lot to learn. If one want to become writter or any thing related to literature , or want to become historian , geo-politics expert, etc. The course is quite good. The exams held every four and a half or five months and the difficulty level is moderate.

Like this course is about rights and authorities which is very important for everyone nowadays and specially when you are a girl so that nobody couldn't dominate you. We read about what were the past sceniors towards the lower castes or women which is also happens in most of the states and cities but this curriculum taught us whats the reality of the world and how to be independent and how to protest for our rights . Even we can more learn about this if the faculity organises those things via presentation or streamings with some videos so it will be more helpful in our exams too!!
