Remarks
Admission is taken through an examination called BITSAT. Students from both PCB and PCM backgrounds are eligible to take the exam. The exam form can easily be found on the official website. Although, there is an examination fee of around 4500 for the students to give the exam. This year the exam would be conducted in two phases. There is a strict no reservation policy in BITS. The exam consists of all subjects Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Logical Reasoning, English, Biology (for PCB students).
Course Curriculum Overview
The course of EEE is considered to be the toughest in general, mainly because it has many fundamental concepts involved at once. The course is a good one as it lets you decide what career you want to get into, be it core or finance or IT. Talking about the faculty, they are very qualified and the ratio is also decent. But the faculty is kind of inhumane at many times where they just want to get over with the course. Many times I have felt that the professors think that students are at their mercy and act accordingly. This being said, it happens only sometimes. Much of the faculty is good and dedicated and ready to help the students. The teaching methodology is simple, slides are shown in the classroom and taught. Physical knowledge is little. Especially at the time of COVID, there was no teaching done as per se mostly because BITS follows a zero percent attendance system. Examinations depend on the course instructor and are easy to pass. If studied well, can score well.
Internships Opportunities
BITS has something called Practice School(PS) involved in its curriculum. They charge tuition fees for it and students are sent for hands-on experience in the industry. No other specific internship drives are organized but they are always supportive of allowing students to do off-campus internships. Practice School is done in 2 parts. PS-1, where they charge almost 75k and 3 months internship is given. No or little stipend is given in PS-1. It is done after the second year. Then is PS-2, where they charge around 85k, and 7 months internship is given. This involves a stipend most of the time and results in PPOs generally. It is done in the fourth year.
Placement Experience
99% of students get placed at BITS Hyderabad. Students are eligible for placements from the fourth year. They sit for Summer Internships before that. The placement Unit of the college works very efficiently and bring companies from all domain for the placement semester.
Fees and Financial Aid
BITS is a costly institute. Current fees of BITS are 7.1 lakhs per annum inclusive of everything including tuition fees, hostel, and other expenses. A 10% fee hike is observed every year so it just increases every year. Scholarships are offered by the institute. A merit scholarship is given to 3% of the top students which is completely based on CGPA. Another scholarship is called Merit-cum-needs(MCN) scholarship is given to students with an annual income lower than 12 lakhs. This limit is revised every year. And the basis of this scholarship also includes the CGPA. Other than this there are Student Aid Fund and Alumni Fund which are provided only in special cases.
Campus Life
Campus Life is good at BITS Hyderabad. 4 fests are conducted over one year. Technical Fest- ATMOS Literary Fest - Verba Maximus Sports Fest- ARENA Cultural Fest - PEARL The library here is world-class and it is one of the best things about campus. Classrooms are big, spacious, and with high technology used in them. The infrastructure is good. All sports are available on campus- Cricket, football, tennis, basketball, swimming, volleyball, squash, table tennis, badminton, pool, chess, carrom and it also has a gym. BITS has the best culture in terms of student bodies. All the cultural, technical, and sports bodies are highly proficient and these student bodies are the ones that make us learn the actual things. Honestly, I have learned more with clubs rather than in classrooms.
Hostel Facilities
Hostels are good. Double sharing rooms in first and second year. Single rooms from third year onwards. Food menu is decent. The quality of food keeps fluctuating but is edible most of the times. There is no separate registration of hostels and is compulsory for every student to live in hostel. All fees is included at the start of semester only. Although no cooler is provided so it becomes tough to live during summers from April - July. Other times it is cool and there is no need of coolers or AC.
