Remarks
The National Institute of Technology Rourkela, also known as the Regional Engineering College of Rourkela is a publicly funded institute of higher learning for technology and engineering. This college in the steel city of Rourkela enticed me to get admitted there because of its fabulous NIRF rankings.
Entrance Preview
I got a Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering there as my rank was 3000. I got a seat in the second round there. My percentile was 98 in the JEE Mains entrance exam which helped me in the admission there.
Course Curriculum Overview
The computer science engineering course curriculum was highly engaging. It endorsed me with the fundamentals of coding. It included various programming languages and other technical concepts like software engineering, database management system, microprocessor, computer architecture and organisations.
Internships Opportunities
There were various internship programs out there. Especially there were summer internship programs which were not only for the students of the very college but for all the students of different colleges as well. I participated in the internship program and got the insight of the real world tasks.
Placement Experience
The placement cell of the college was highly active and had many companies in the campus. The companies participating in the placements were Amazon, Microsoft, Qualcomm, Barclays, Citi Bank, Bajaj Auto, etc. The highest package in my batch went to INR 45 LPA whereas the average package was around INR 9 LPA.
College Events
There were several events and fests organized in the college. There was the student Media Body of the college known as the Monday Morning which covered all the events, fests and activities there. Out of all other fests, Hunkaar Fest was the best fest. There were Hackathons at the college known as HackNITR which was my personal favorite.
Fee Structure And Facilities
I had been admitted to the bachelor's degree course of Computer Science and engineering which was a four years course and cost me INR 1,24,000 per year. Apart from these basic tuition fees, I had to pay separately for student activity fees, library and electricity fees which were the internet fees basically, every semester.
Fees and Financial Aid
There were a number of scholarships which were offered by different companies for meritorious students at undergraduate level. They were PMS (Post- Matric Scholarships) (for SC-ST students) given by Orissa Government, TCS (Top Class Scholarships) (All students) given by Tata Consultancy Services, Merit Scholarships (Govt. of odisha)( All students), NTS (National Talent Scholarship) (GoI), TCS scholarship for CSE students, Indian Oil Scholarship, ONGC scholarship, Balmerlawrie and co. ltd and OP Jindal Engineering and Management Scholarship (OPJEMS). These helped me a lot as well.
Campus Life
Talking about campus life, I still feel so exhilarated. It was a huge ocean of distinct personalities who all carried something unique with them. That diverse environment helped me encounter an enriched personality of my own. Apart from the appealing infrastructure, comfortable classrooms, equipped laboratories and advanced libraries, the college campus was superbly cool. I endorsed myself into various active communities which gave me a lot of new experiences.
Hostel Facilities
There were different hostels depending on the year of the B. Tech students. The CV Raman Hall of Residence is one of the two hostels which is abode to the female students of the college. The hostel constituted of around 700 rooms which included single rooms, twin rooms and dormitories. The CVR Hall mess was fairly large and spacious as it catered to a rather huge population. Whereas the Dhirubhai Ambani Hall of Residence was an abode to around 300 residents from all years except the freshmen.
Alumni/Alumna
The Alumni Association of the college was one of the most important association of the college as the alumni were the brand ambassadors of the college. The Alumni shared their alma matter with us which helped me to know about the real world tasks and how things actually work in the field of corporate and technology.
Faculty
The faculties out there at the college were highly professed in their particular area of subjects. They were mainly PHDs and Masters who had a great style of teaching. They used to easily get my problems and helped me tackle them with utmost efficiency.
