IIT Kanpur academics

IIT Kanpur has been ranked as fourth among the best engineering colleges in India by the NIRF in 2020. It was ranked 16th among management schools in India by NIRF. Also, it was ranked 65th in QS Asia rankings 2020. For mechanical engineering was 2542 as an opening rank and 6763 as the closing rank in the open category for both males and females. However for other reserved categories like OBC, SC and ST are given relaxation in cutoffs. Somewhere around 3500 I could easily secure an admission and got a call from the counsellor for being shortlisted. After the counselling session was over I paid the fees along with the security deposit and got admitted in the university.

The latest course curriculum at IIT Kanpur includes models and topics like engineering design and graphics, energy systems, internal combustion engines, mechanical engineering and communication skills, introduction to solid mechanics, applied dynamics and vibrations, advanced computational fluid dynamics, machine learning, microscale thermal Engineering nonlinear elasticity vibration control, introduction to robotics, manufacturing processes, etc. But from that we had biweekly quizzes and internal examinations to get prepared for the final terminals. The faculty here was extremely cooperative and explain the topics thoroughly and repeatedly. The faculty-student ratio was 9:1

During your study, 92% of the students were placed with the highest package as 1.5 crores per annum, the average package as 15 lakh per annum, and the lowest package as 8 lakh per annum. Companies like Rolls Royce, Jaguar, HUL, ITC, Uber, Microsoft, Google, Reliance, Qualcomm, etc visited the campus for recruitment. To get an internship the students are required to score 8 CGPA in the 2nd year of study. From that in the interview, skills like communication negotiation and other soft skills were asked about. Most of the students who did not get placed went on for further study is like a PhD or an MBA.

One of the scholarships that IIT Kanpur offers is the merit cum means scholarship where students receive a full-tuition waiver with a pocket allowance of rupees 1000 per month. Eligibility in the scholarship the student's annual parental income should be less than 4.5 lakhs. Another scholarship is the INSPIRE scholarship where students receive an annual scholarship of rupees 30000 per semester, 60000 annually along with the research grant of 20000 rupees. Other miscellaneous scholarships include donor scholarships, 3 basic maths scholarships, external scholarships, sports scholarships, academic excellence scholarships, convocations, medals, awards, and prizes

Campus life at IIT Kanpur is full of extracurricular activities and fun. Students are found networking and socializing with their seniors and compeers. Has several competitions like Antaragni, the annual cultural fest. Techkriti is techno management festival at IIT Kanpur. Ghost is the IIT Kanpur annual sports festival with Inter College sports meet from all over India. It has an advanced computer center with thousands of equipment like computers, laptops, and other devices. The central library in which every year 4500 books and journal volumes are added.
