VIT Vellore, B.Tech Mechanical Engineering
Reviewed on Nov 9, 2015

Entrance Preview

I got a rank of 17k in JEE, a rank of 32k in AIEEE and a rank of 6k n VITEEE. I opted for VIT Vellore, as the option was between VIT Vellore, Manipal & BITS MSc. Course in Goa. I didnt want to take MSc. and Manipal was a strict no from my parents so VIT Vellore was the only choice left. Plus the college has a good reputation especially in Delhi & Mumbai.

Course Curriculum Overview

3

Faculty - MixedCourse - Outdated and to put it bluntly extremely backward & irrelevant in today's scenario. (I am saying this for my branch - Mechanical Engineering, though I've heard similar things from my batchmates who have taken other branches here).

Internships Opportunities

I did 2 internships: 1. Maruti Suzuki Gurgaon (Summer internship which is compulsary in our college) - No stipend, 2. FCB Ulka - Its one of the top 5 marketing & advertising firms in the country. I did this internship on my own for my own career benefit and interest. - 8k stipend.

College Events

4.5

Riviera - Among the top 5 cultural college fests in the country with appearances from famous faces like Shankar Mahadevan, Arjun Kapoor, Shreya Ghossal, Vishal Daldani, & Sukhwinder Singh.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Its cheaper than Manipal but still one of the most expensive ones you will find for private colleges. My tution fees is 1.2 lpa though I've heard they've increased it recently. (For students admitted through 'Management Quota' the tuition fees range from between 2lpa to upto 6lpa depending on your rank & choice of branch). Hostel room fees are slightly expensive but not as much as tuition fees.

Fees and Financial Aid

Only for local Vellore students as far as I know. Exceptions are made in the rare cases where someone has scored an under 100 rank in JEE but for some reason choses VIT over IIT.

Campus Life

3.5

Extra curriculars - Really good. There are really a lot of opportunities here from entrepreneurship, debating, dramatics, sports, etc. here. Campus Life - Its a jail. Campus intime for girls is 7pm. Yup, no outdoor dinners girls and hostel intime is 8:30 pm for girls and 9:30pm for boys (YES, they are discriminatory). If you are a girl and mind being discriminated against then this is not the place for you quite simply. 3 girls got expelled in their final years for standing up to the Chancellor on the issue.

Hostel Facilities

4

Hostel - Clean & good rooms but VERY STRICT in the hostels. Very strict about the hostel intime. If you open your room door and find a red tag (discplininary vultures) roaming the corridors and finding an excuse to sniff you (checking for smokers) don't b

Exam Structure

The most rigorous you can imagine. There are 2 semesters in a year (each of 6 months).3 Quizes - 5 marks each2 CAT Continuous Assessment Tests - 15 marks each1 Term End Examination - 50 marks Lab Midterm Exams Lab Term End Exams.

Placement Experience:

Students can join job drives from the 7th term. Many firms visit the campus for jobs and offer roles in tech and other fields. The pay varies by firm and role. EEC has a good job rate and gives help for job prep. After my degree, I plan to work in the tech field and grow my skills.

Placement Experience:

Students are open to campus placements from 2nd year onwards. There are many companies who visit such as Delloite, Accenture, Cognizant, TCS, Amazon, NatWest, Nokia, etc. Highest package offered is 42 lpa and lowest is maybe 2-4lpa. Around 90% of students get placed here. My plans is to get a job through campus recruitment. Currently I got an internship through campus recruitment in Cognizant so the recruitment is quite nice here.

Placement Experience:

One thing I really need to appreciate at CIT is its placement training program. The placement team conducts regular sessions on 1. aptitude 2. coding 3. communication skills 4. group discussions and 5. interview preparation which helped me feel more confident during placements. The trainers were friendly and always encouraged us to improve our skills step by step. They provide continuous guidance and feedback throughout the training process. Mock interviews and one to one assessments helped me to understand my strength and weak areas and I work on improvements . These sessions not only improved my technical and communication skills but also boosted my confidence . The placement training team played an important role in preparing me for career opportunities and industry expectation

Placement Experience:

Chennai Institute of Technology is an instituition that truly prioritizes student career growth . The placement cell is exceptionallu well-organized ,consistently connecting students with reputed companies across various industries. What makes CIT stood out is the quality of its training staff. They focus heavily on communication , technical knowledge and competitive preparation ,align students with what top companies expect ,and contiuosly push us to improve and meet industry standards. Their structured training helped me to clearly identify my strengths and work on my weak areas, which made a huge difference during interviews and boosted my overall confidence. The department faculty are equally commnedable ,knowledgable ,approachable and genuinely invested in student career. Overall CIT is an excellent choice for anyone focused on building a strong and sucessful career
