Remarks

To take admission in M.Sc food science and technology in BHU you have to appear in an entrance exam called BHU - PET. The application fee was 600 Rs. for general and OBC and it's 300 for PWD and SC/ST candidates. The application form was released in the month of August due to the Covid situation otherwise form are released in Feb - March. Also, this year's entrance exam was conducted by NTA, not BHU. And for coming years (2022) BHU might be part of CUET. Reservation criteria are according to the central government that's, 15% for SC; 7.5% for ST; 27% for OBC-NCL; 10% for EWS; 5% for PWD; also 15% seats are reserved for BHU employee's wards. Eligibility: Graduation (B.Sc) in food science and technology or 4-year B.SC in agriculture or dairy technology. The level of the question paper is moderate. Mostly it constitutes questions from dairy part, microbiology, food laws, meat technology, agriculture, food processing, and food engineering. If your rank is under 100 then the chance of getting will be higher.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

The course curriculum is quite good and elaborate. Other than core courses of food technology we have to study few application-based subjects in the food industry like Stats and computer applications. It's quite indulging, we have to make several assignments and presentations. Faculties are too good and well qualified, all are P.Hd holders. Exams are not that hard to pass, you have to attend classes daily, it's enough to pass with good marks.

Internships Opportunities

4

It's compulsory for every student to do an internship for 4-6 weeks in the industry after completion of the first year. Professors have direct contact with industries they can help to find one. Many students have done their internships in Nestle, Amul, ITC, Britannia, and other prominent companies.

Placement Experience

3.5

Placement depends on the concerned department. As for food technology, there is placement. In the year 2021 the placement for M.Sc food technology is 65%, many media to prominent companies visit in Institute of Agriculture.

Fees and Financial Aid

It's a special study course in BHU, which means it's a self-financed course. So its fee is very in comparison to other courses of BHU but if you compare to other good food technology colleges then it's better option and fee is comparable to other colleges also. Also, if you're a resident of UP and have a family income of less than 2.5 lakh then you are eligible for a state scholarship also you can apply for a national scholarship.

Campus Life

4.5

Campus life is the best here, BHU is one of the largest residential universities of Asia with an area of more than 4000 acres (larger than Vatican City) situated in the holiest place of India Varanasi. It has everything on the campus like the number of playgrounds, NCC, swimming pool, temple, canteens like CCD and Nescafe. Also, the NIRF 2021 ranking of BHU is 3rd all over India. It has lots of departmental fest like SRIJAN, SHRISTI, and Kashi Yatra of IIT. It has one of the prominent Central libraries also can avail free medical benefits from Sar Sundarlal Hospital, in the BHU.

Course Curriculum Overview:

This is a postgraduate course so I took admitted to this course because I want to become a lecturer (Professor). So after doing this I want to pursue a doctorate degree. Teacher student ratio in this course is 1:60 In this college, there are both permanent faculty and guest faculty. Permanent faculty has better teaching skills than the guest faculty because the majority of them are students who pursue doctorate degrees under the guidance of this college's Professors. They generally lack experience. The teaching method is excellent for permanent faculty. Exams are held timely. One is held in the month of December and the other in May. There are four semesters in this course. The paper level is difficult. One needs a descriptive knowledge of the subject to score good marks in examinations. Previous year papers can provide a lot of help.
