Remarks

My stay at this department has been a smooth ride with smiling faces all around and tons of encouragement and advice. Both teaching and non-teaching faculty are supportive in case of any formalities. All my certificates were kept safely and my progress was well documented.

Entrance Preview

I did not took any entrance exams.

Placement Experience

4

Once you graduate, there is always a high chance of continuing your career at the same institution where you did your project work. This is based on performance and job availability. No companies come specifically for placements. However, it has an ample list of collaborating universities that the students can apply to. Even if the application is to a university or industry outside it's list, the students always get a positive reply.

College Events

3.5

Here are a few of the events conducted by the department:-1. Annual Symposia on Photonics, and Nanoscience and Technology,2. Workshops on Atmospheric Sciences, 3D Crystallography,3. Department Seminar Series every fortnight.4. Quiz competitions5. Optics-Photonics related events - Symposia, visiting lectures, workshops for school students 6. Bachelor (B.E./B.Tech/ B.Sc.) Interaction programmes

Fee Structure And Facilities

Manipal fee structures increases yearly. The fee structure for this course is highly feasible. It is 1,28,000 for two years. 69000 in first year and 59000 in the second. There are three courses available - the Master of Science in 1. Photonics 2. Nanoscience and Technology and 3. Biophysics.

Fees and Financial Aid

1. Manipal University had a scholarship scheme for top 100 ranked students in their UGET exam. 2. SPIE scholariships are available to students of this department for travel and as education grants.

Hostel Facilities

3

Since it is a part of Manipal University, Hostel accomodation is available to the student. Though, most students live off-campus.There is no dearth of places to eat in Manipal. Every nook and corner has a fast food stall.

Alumni/Alumna

An alumni network has been initiated and built by the university. Alumni meets are held commemorating jubilees of 10, 25, 30 years, and so. It is nice to get in touch with your seniors for guidance. Of course, there is always Facebook.

Exam Structure

There are two sessionals that contribute to internal marks i.e. 30 marks in the final exam. The final exam paper is for 70. The CGPA grading system is relative. The exams are back to back, without a holiday. This is followed by a lab exam, usually with a holiday as a break. It gets close to impossible to complete the entire semester syllabus in a single day. However, exam holidays are normally given a week before to compensate.

Faculty

3.5

All Professors are highly approachable and are involved in some research activity or the other, which gives a positive vibe to the student. The list of publications by the department is a clear reflection of the unique work attemped here. The teacher to student ratio is almost 1:1 due to its limited student intake.

I liked this biotechnology course in degree(Bsc) and i wanted to continue this course with higher studies. Hence this university is reputed one in Karnataka.. i choose this one and I got the seat and I am very happy for this. The teaching methods are really good but it depends on particular lecturers, how they teach .. For main sem exam the time was around 3 hours for 70 marks and it was moderate and can be manageable
