My college overall experience!

The addmission process itself was a smooth sailing one and I got the addmission without any problems with my MET (Manipal Entarance Test) rank. I had to appear in the Manipal Enterance Test for getting an addmission to any of the Manipal affiliated colleges. The cutoff for each year varies so checking it online will be the best option. Also for any information regarding the application process at smit you can visit:- www.applysmit.in During my time as there was no pandemic I got the opportunity to visit the college for completing the addmision process and the staff there are very humble and guided us through the process whenever we needed it, making it a great first experience.

I chose this course as one of my cousins had already passed out of college and she had informed me about the keen dedication of the faculty there. I myself was very satisfied with the attention of the teachers on the students growth. The faculty of every branch as I've noticed with my interactions with the teachers are very supportive and have loads of knowledge to share. The faculty student ratio is also very balanced at : 2. In my department each teacher has a different style of teaching which they mold according to the students preferances. There are usually 4 tests in each semester excluding the end sem exams, two of them being minor quizes which are pretty easy to pass and the other two are unit tests which we call sessionals and are fairly moderate keeping in mind the classes had been attended regularly and focused on, the case being similar for the end semster exams.

Internship opportunities start from the third year in the 5th semester. It is good but not all students are able to succeed here. Internships for last semester that is the 8th semester is pretty good if you focus in the preplacement training classes provided by the college and with good projects that have been worked during your time in college as I've been told by my seniors. We have to also do a minor project in the 6th semester which is a great experience as i am experiencing right now with our teacher guide and my group. The 5th semester internship summer offer can be improved so hope that will be worked on otherwise all is going good.

Several companies come for campus placement. Third years are elligible for summer internships and fourth years can get placement + Internship offer for the last semester internship. The college provides us with pre-placement training which is very helpful which I'm currently undergoing. The placement record of the college has been satisfactory till now. We also get sessions from alumnus who tell us their experience and guide us through their experience. The placement drives can be improved hope for more companies and more opportunities to be given to every students.

The fees can be a little intimidating but keeping in mind the faculty and other engineering colleges in the country it is okay. The college has a provision of paying the fees in installments which is a huge plus as it does not put pressure on your budget all at once. Scholarships are there and you can get information for the same on the site mentioned before.

Life at the campus is enjoyable and the environment is also great with the teachers and students socializing. The vibe of the place is breathtaking with mountains surrounding the college and the sound of the Teesta river flowing beside the lower college grouds. There are multiple clubs for interested students. I myself am a part of the technical club named Decoder's and the editorial board and both have their own site. The air among the student's friendly and we enjoy our time with each other working and doing what we enjoy. The library has a great book colection which we can borrow to read for a certain time period or read at the library. There are also reading rooms for students to discuss and study with each other. There are indoor courts for playing games like badminton and outdoor courts for playing football and volleyball. There are a number of fests, cultural fests like kaalrav or kalakshetra, technical fests like techadrishta where students show their talents.

The campus hostels have two hostels each for the girls and boys respectively. The first year and the older year students hostel is separated so the new students can get comfortable with the environment and settle down well. There are wardens available 24/7 at each hostel and help out with anything you need. We can give our clothes for washing to the laundry man and we also have a supply of hot water. There is room cleaning service around thrice per week. The old girls hostel has a balcony attachment which comes as a blessing. There are also different mess for boys and girls. The food quality is pretty nice and keeps improving constantly. The menu is very balanced and has various different cusines. The hostels also have midnight canteen where we can satiate our hunger while staying awake late. There is also a first aid health center at the campus which is also accessible at any time.
