Course Curriculum Overview
I choose this course because I love learning more things about machines/engines. After admission, you will get a mentor 1:20 ratio. 1 mentor for 20 students which is great. If you are having any problem, just share it with your mentor, and he will guide you. Faculty are both mixed, good and bad. Actually, no faculty is bad, it's just that their teaching methodology is different and you didn't cope up with that. Some teachers are like you will love them, and some you will start hating. Anyway, it's the matter of every college, you have to learn by yourself and stop depending upon professor's to teach. Use the library inside the campus to learn. Here due to lockdown, everything is delayed. I can't say it with a guarantee but for me, my session started in November 2021, and from 24th January, I am having my CAT-1 Exam.
Internships Opportunities
If you are maintaining a good GPA and a good percentage of attendance, then no one can stop you from getting an internship and then getting a placement. So just study enough to secure a good GPA. You have to go for a 6 months contract on a ship as an Engine cadet, and in that 6 months, you just have to learn how to use this and that by seeing you, seniors. Just get more and more knowledge as an engine cadet, and you will be free to become the 4th Engineer on a ship and start earning lakhs. The stipend you get as an engine cadet is around 30000 to 40000.
Placement Experience
Campus placements are great here, from what I heard from senior batches is that everyone from their batch got placement. So yes rest assured, if you are maintaining a good GPA and are having a good attendance record, then you will definitely get placed. There is a number of local and foreign companies which visit the campus every year. Around 70-80% of students get placement in different companies around the world. I am planning to get a placement in a renowned company (Maersk or synergy), and then after doing 2-3 years of job, I will leave the job on container ships and will move to join cruise ships.
Fees and Financial Aid
320000 is the total fee of BE MARINE ENGINEERING at AMET. You can pay for this in 3 terms. The fees include almost everything, your dress, food, Hostel etc. And yes, Hostel is mandatory for this course as it is under DIRECTORATE GENERAL OF SHIPPING. you will know more about DGS later. You will get 10000 rupees covid financial assistance. If you are a girl, then bingo you got a whole lot of scholarship in the merchant Navy. You will reduce your studies cost to a whole lot. For boys, AMET provides you scholarships from the 2nd year, where if you are having a good GPA then you can apply for a scholarship, and you can make your 2nd year fees to zero. yes, you heard right. But for that, you will have to score good marks and secure a good GPA.
Campus Life
Actually, it's only been 3 months on the campus, so I don't know much about fests conducted on the campus. But yes, there are cultural festivals conducted every 2-3 months. There are annual fests also which is celebrated once a year. You will surely enjoy it a lot. Also, there are celebrations for some festivals like Christmas inside the campus. So yeah you will enjoy it. There are plenty of books available in the Library, ranging from novels to foreign author books to journals. Monthly newsletters or magazines are also being printed at AMET. Culturals are being conducted every 2-3 months, so yeah plenty of extra-curricular activities to participate in. Talking about clubs, there are NCC, NSS, ROTARACT CLUB, LEO CLUB, ICC, and many more. You can participate in them, and get more knowledge in the respective field.
Hostel Facilities
As a hostel is mandatory for this course, you will have to live in Hostels. The hostel facility is very good. Regular room cleaning, washroom cleaning is being done. For 1st and 2nd year, you have to share your room with 3 other members, for 3rd and 4th year students, they have to share a room with only one member. The mess facility is also very good. You get variety and quality of food. Hostel fees for a year are 75000, which is a bit less affordable. But you are getting that level of quality in the mess. Overall, the hostel facility is very good. Rooms are enough big to accommodate 4 people.
