Review for SJMSOM, IIT BOMBAY

I appeared for CAT in 2020, post which I received interview calls from MDI, IIM's, VGSOM, SJMSOM, DMS etc. The admission criteria of the open category for SJMSOM, IIT BOMBAY was more than 60% in 10th and 12th which had a weightage of 5%. There was 5% weightage to the graduation scores and 10% to gender diversity too. Post filling the form I got an interview call and was also allotted a buddy to help clear any doubts regarding the interview process. The interview was held on a platform & each candidate was allowed to log in and interact with the platform a day prior to the interview. On the day of the interview, there were two main procedures document verification and the actual PI. We were assigned to a buddy in batches of 20 who would personally take us to our respective procedure. The interview panel had faculty from college, alumni and industry experts who asked questions based on the form filled. The conduct was very smooth and hassle free.

SJMSOM has been one of the most sought colleges for operations and also a great place for other specialisations. I wanted to do MBA in operations hence decided to apply and secure admission when I got the offer. The college follows a case based pedagogy and students is expected to follow the same to make learning more interactive. The faculty is great with industry experience and the teachings are relevant to today's happenings. My batch has a student strength of 116, which are further divided into 2 sections. Thus each student receives proper attention and also increases interaction with peers and faculty. The college follows a semester pattern with two terms in a semester. Each term will be 2-3 months long with courses covering all aspects of business administration. There are exams at the end and mid of each term and also surprise quizzes to go along with them. Terms are packed with case study assignments and a lot of interactive learning

The college receives internship offers from leading FMCG's, ecommerce , banks, consulting and IT firms. The summer internships are for a duration of two months. I have not undergone my internship yet hence cannot comment on the tasks involved during it.

Students are offered summer placements during the first semester and consists of a host of well reknowned companies the information for which is available on the official handles of college on social media platforms and also the website. The fee for my batch was 10 lacs which was similar to the previous year because of COVID. The fee structure includes the hostel and mess fees but are not asked for if you have not availed for the same.

SJMSOM hosts Avenues the annual business leadership summit of IIT BOMBAY which has a host of various competitions and talks series with eminent personalities like Mr Ratan Tata, Javed Akhtar, Sam Pitroda etc. The college has a well kept library the information regarding which is also available on the official website. Being situated in IIT BOMBAY the amenities are well kept and also have really good sports festival. The college activities are student run and have many clubs the information for which is available on the website

The admission procedure consisted of only the PI round after the initial screening of the admission forms. the interview was based on the preferences filled in the form, work experience (if any) and for freshers, it was based on the projects or internships undertaken during graduation. Questions on current happenings and specialisation preferences were also asked. My preparation included a thorough understanding of the points present on my college application and preparation around it. I kept myself abreast with all the current happenings and news about industry I worked in. I also prepared for the different MBA specialisations and the basic knowledge about them
