BITS Pilani, Msc (Tech) Information Systems

Remarks

The Management is very conservative. There have been cases of the senior professors beating up the students at the campus which is pathetic. The School of philosophy which they come from seems like they have been trained by RSS on "Indian Culture" Ethics.

Entrance Preview

I got around 314 in BITSAT and 9000 in AIEEE. From AIEEE prespective, I did not get any good colleges and was lucky enough to get IT (Information Systems) at BITS Pilani. Although the course is called MSc.(Tech) Information systems and seems like a masters course, its a Bachelors course as the College is deemed.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

Frankly, the best thing at BITS Pilani was no attendance because is amazing as it helps you to do what you like. Like a lot others I did not take a lot of interest in the course though I must say the faculty also didnot take a lot of interest in teaching the course or making it better for us. As far as the curriculum is designed, at BITS, for the first two years its a general course with even a course like Management principles, Psychology being compulsory for us. Third year is Completely IT course, and 4th year divided into 1 sem Internship which I got at BSchool INSEAD, getting paid 1500 Euros a month and 2nd sem was 6 electives which range from IT, Finance, Management and even Film Making. So I took interesting courses like Film Making, Stock Markets making my experience decent.

Internships Opportunities

My internship Experience was good. First was after the 2nd year at a Social MediaMarketing Startup out of Bombay. I loved it and taught me naunces of a startup. The 2nd Internship was at INSEAD based out of France (Rank 5 Business School) where I worked with Their IT department. It was a lovely experience and truly Golbal.

Placement Experience

5

I am sure BITS Ranks in top 5-6 Colleges in India when it comes to placements. I guess the Average CTC (for my course) was around Rs 7 Lakh / Annum. The Top Companies were Amazon, Google, Bain offering from 10 Lakhs - 18 Lakhs but I have lesser idea since I did not sit for placements.

College Events

5

OASIS - The Cultural Festival was pretty amazing. It has a participation from more than 300 colleges and is one of the oldest cultural festivals in India. APOGEE - It was the technical Festival and ones of top ranked festivals based in India. CONQUEST - It is one of the biggest Business Plan Festivals in India with a prize money of more than 3 Lakhs. No wonder Startups are Hot at BITS Pilani.

Fees and Financial Aid

I only know Merit Cum Need Scholarship which was around 50% of tuition Fees with the Parensts income is less than Rs 3 Lakhs/Annum. I think there is also Aditya Birla Scholarship but don't have much idea about that.

Campus Life

4

Campus life is lovely. I can proudly say its one of the most culturally rich campuses in India with big diversity. To be honest its the only college in North India with the very significant South Indian Population. Labs are well equipped specially the Electronics ones and Bio ones. A lot of cultural Associations have their cultural night, food tasting nights. Debates and these competitions happen during the technical festivals. Robotics is also big and it has produced India's biggest Robotics company Grey Orange Robotics.

Hostel Facilities

3

To be very honest the hostels are bad and during my Course,Washrooms were not good but considering the fact that we paid Rs 500 per sem, it was a great deal. Mess food especially for boys was bad and I ended up having food at small restaurants in the camp

Alumni/Alumna

I would rate BITS Alumni Network in the Top 3. BITS has one of the biggest Alumni days celebrated on the 7th August of every year when all Alumni Globally organise Local Meetups. There are google Groups and help specially for students who are travelling for competitions abroad and Seed Funding for entrepreneurs.

Placement Experience:

For Master's students, they can start appearing for placement as soon as starting their 2nd Semester. There are lots of opportunities for students to grab a good placement. The average package for Master's can be 6-8LPA while the highest placement last year was 54LPA

Course Curriculum Overview:

- The course curriculum was specifically based on giving more knowledge and insights about the course I chose. I went onto specialization and chose microbiology and learnt that it has various other fields because of the curriculum. - The course and lab prepares well for the real-world applications. - There should have been more hands-on experience with some lab equipments and some teachers should have given more guidance to the students. - Frequency of exams and difficulty level was good. No complaints about that.

Placement Experience:

The campus placement commity is good, there is a dedicated department for campus placement for students depending upon the course you chose if you take Btech, Mtech or MCA its good but if you take M.Sc you have to struggle for placement and even if you get placement you hace to struggle with the package.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The curriculum is updated and is on par with central universities. The curriculum is relevant if you want to make your career in research. More distinct and relevant additional electives could be incorporated into the curriculum as some aren't as relevant as they used to be.
