Entrance Preview

I didn't have to sit in any exam for opting this course in this college. It was open for all and it had a cut out marks, i.e., getting first division in higher secondary examinations. I chose sociology as it deals with the various points of society and social beings. I wanted to learn sociology because it had many scopes too in future.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

I did an honours course in sociology. The syllabus was vast but immensely interesting. There were two parts Part 1 and Part 2. Part 1 involved 2 years and Part 2 involved 1 years. In the first part i had to study sociology along with two other pass subjects and for me they were economics and political science along with english, bengali and environmental studies.

Internships Opportunities

No stipends were given as there were no internships held in our college. It is a general college and not a tech college.

Placement Experience

2

There were no placements or no companies came to the campus as it was a general college rather than a tech college in my times. But yes graduating from Asutosh College was considered good as it was a renowned college in our city Kolkata. Students passing out do get much opportunities.

College Events

4.5

The list consist of the following-- saraswati puja, college feast, freshers welcome, teachers day, fairwell parties, annual day drama, singing and dancing competitions, band contests, party anniversaries, foundation day celebrations, cultural meets. All events were well organised. Most of the students participate in various segments. Prizes were organised along with bouquets for professors to felicitate every ones hardwork.

Fee Structure And Facilities

It was very much feasible in the year 2004. My total yearly fee was Rs 7000. Monthly i had to pay Rs.91 and I had to donate for party funds too. Books were expensive but mostly available in college library and also in City Libraries.

Fees and Financial Aid

No I have no idea about any scholarship or loan facilities that were offered by college. But yes appreciations in terms of money were rewarded. Also if shown that one cannot afford then sponsors were searched and appointed.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

I didn't opt for hostels or pgs or mess. But I did hear them to be qualitative enough. The food was good and the hostel facility was limited to fewer students. The rooms were small but clean. The food was average. PG rentals were mostly for Rs. 1000 to Rs. 1500 at the max without food. Food was available around the college campus.

Exam Structure

The exams structure was very good and not at all tiring or overcrowded. Half yearly and annual exams were taken other than main board exams but they didn't exhaust us as it was much needed as to know where I stood. Other than these weekly assessments were taken by professors in regular intervals.

Admission

I was keeping an eye on the college notifications of various colleges and when I heard about this one i rushed to get it. I had to stand in a long queue with my father from early morning. Around the noon, i got my form after submission of a nominal charge.

Faculty

4.5

Our faculty was one of the best ones. From our H.D to the lecturers they were great teachers. They took utmost care and invest in much quality time to illustrate each topic in details. Proper notes were read out by all teachers and professors every day that helped us a lot. All works were done in class leaving a lot less to do at home.

Course Curriculum Overview:

There are several prospects, especially peer-to-peer counseling, where you get a mentor. We call it mentor mentee program. So, there will be groups of students, and each group will have a mentor who helps you whenever you face any issues whether in real life or in your academic journey. They’re always there for you. There are also remedial classes, and extracurricular activities are included in the curriculum. You even get the freedom to choose what you want to pursue creatively, like joining poetry clubs and similar groups. Right now, I’m at Banaras University, and the curriculum here is really good. We have sessions on public speaking, how to conduct interviews, and many other practical skills. These are highly commendable because they help you in professional situations like the one I’m in now. However, I would say that teachers could be a bit more active with electronic tools like using PPT presentations or audio-visual methods instead long lecture sessions. As for exams, I wouldn’t say they’re too difficult because there are many weekly assessments and sessionals, which actually help you evaluate yourself better.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I used to read so many novels from my childhood and that inspired me in getting attracted to this field. We used to have the fecility of having seminar in the end of every month after compleating of each lessons. And this process helped us in true education. After every year professors from differnt parts of the country used to come for a seminer for overall groth of the students. Actually is theory teaching style is followed in the college, according to me some developments in the practical teaching can be used. Semister is held at the end of every six months and the exams are used to be moderate in nature.
