Remarks
The admission is based on the merit list which is based on the marks of graduation. I applied to few colleges in Dehradun along with SGRR and got selected in all but when it came to finalizing one college to start my masters I went through all the applied colleges physically and explore the college and its faculties. After all that, I found SGRR PG is amongst the better option for me. The teaching faculties of the Economics department are very cooperative and supportive. The infrastructure of the college is better and well maintained compared to other colleges. During the admission process, the HOD of my department took a short interview of mine which was really appreciable and informative for me. The regular classes and teaching aid was given by my teachers really helped me to grow my interest in the subject.
Course Curriculum Overview
The college is affiliated with HNBGU (central university of Srinagar) and the course curriculum is the same as given by the UGC. In the economics department, the total faculty was three for about 40 to 45 students. All the faculty teachers were Doctorate and Net qualified. They are really very good at their subject and teaching. The internals and external exams were taken on time. The internals was quite moderate to pass and the external exams are taken by the university on each semester basis.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions
The fee for the course is very marginal around 6k to 8k per year. But the hostel which is now undertaken by the SGRR University is very high to somewhat around 80k per year. But this is not the college's hostel and we can opt for residing in private PGs also. There are scholarships for students which are issued by the Govt and universities. But no provision of financial assistance I have seen there.
Campus Life
The campus life is normal just like other colleges, with one canteen which is just okay for students and the college ground with the auditorium. The library is just normal and not very good. The students used to sit there and do their study, the books are issues as per the rules. But it lacks proper maintenance, new books, and a silent environment for concentration. While the classrooms are normal and maintained with chairs and blackboards. The sports and NCC are very active in the college, I used to see the cricket team and NCC students performing their routine practice and participating in the competition.
Hostel Facilities
The college has a girls and boys hostel which is undertaken and run by a private university (SGRR University) and therefore the fee is very high. The rooms are well spaced with two, three, and four beds. The food is just okay with no new additions to the menu. As compared to other girl's hostels, the rules are quite strict here with strict entry timing, no friend and relative are allowed in the room, and the like. However, there are few private pg options available nearby the college with different rates starting from 3k per month.
