Entrance Preview
I took FMS Entrance Exam. I scored 99 %. I opted for FMs as it provided the best ROI among all B-Schools.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum across B-schools is fairly standard. The course material is generally generic in the first year in order to help the uninitiated student understand the space. One can choose how to pick their specialisation courses. However, barring a few courses, most of the courses are fairly basic. Ideally, one should come to a B-school with a good idea of what they want to pursue in life, and not expect the course itself to yield the answer.
Internships Opportunities
Yes, Summer placements are the biggest event in the first year, and from day one everyone is focussed on preparing for it. B-Schools have kind of become job factories in that sense. I got an investment banking internship with a boutique investment bank and the stipend of one month covered by entire college fees (at FMS :P). Generally stipends tend to be good - but it varies depending on the company itself.
Placement Experience
100% placement. But then nearly all colleges boast of 100% placements. The companies that visit campus are largely the same that visit all tier-1 B-Schools. They offer fairly standard packages across the country. It is a good starting point and would help in growing further.
College Events
There were 2 fests held annually - cultural and management festivals. They were big or small depending on the level of sponsorship that we were able to collect. Cultural fests were more fun while management fests were more serious and involved. Prizes ranged from cash prizes to interviews for placement.
Fee Structure And Facilities
FMS is the cheapest post graduation college in the country. The fees is Rs. 20,000 for two years. However, the college does not provide any accommodation or stay facilities. FMS is associated with a Boy's hostel (along with Delhi School of Economics), and it has limited no. of seats for the boys. For the women, a very limited hostel facility is on offer.
Fees and Financial Aid
JPEMS scholarship program is on offer at FMS where the top ranking 10 or 20 students give a written exam and then 1 student each year is picked to qualify for the scholarship. That student gets enough money to cover the fees as well as accommodation facility for 2 years.
Campus Life
Gender ratio is very favourable in FMS. Generally the gender ratio is 50%. However, like any B-school, the diversity is much more skewed in favour of Engineers than any other course students. College life itself is fun. The Hostel folk organise 2-3 parties per year. Birthdays are generally celebrated. And college parties happen once a semester.
Alumni/Alumna
Alumni network is extensive as FMS has been around for quite a while. Yes, alumni tend to be very helpful and that has been imbued as a culture, because we go to college seeing extremely helpful alumni, we tend to become helpful alumni ourselves.
Exam Structure
Exams are held in a semester manner. Frequent tests were ofcourse taken depending on the Course and the Teacher. Mid-Semester exams were also taken. They did make life difficult and hectic in the first year, given the summer placement pressure. However, year 2 onwards, life becomes simpler and depending on how many electives you pick, you can choose how hectic (and fruitful) you make your life.
