Remarks

The college was closer to my home, currently in Punjab, it has lush green area, being eco-friendly and it provided a good exposure. The admission was done by JEE Advanced examination and I joined the campus from 12/11/20. I preferred college dunia Blog and also took review from Quora to select this college.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

I like Physics the most in my JEE preperation , so , personally, Mechanics was my strongest, also I was interested how engineers build new physical structures by their ideas and tinkering. That was the reason of choosing Mechanical engineering. Student ratio , is 90:10. Faculty is highly qualified, all are PhD holders, with a good way of teaching. Exams are frequent , one per month, and has strict checking, 40+ is needed to pass considering absolute grading, but the tough curriculum and high competition (if considered relative grading) makes some of the students fail in achieving it. So, as a premium institute, IIT Ropar is a highly rated institution.

Internships Opportunities

3.5

Yes, I was offered an internship from TechFest IIT Bombay as a college Ambassador. It's of a year, and the task is to spread about it to large number of public as possible. Also, it will hone my skills by learning new things in science and technology.

Placement Experience

3.5

Companies come for placements in 4th year. Yes, job opportunities are ample ranging from product based to automation, etc. I don't know much about that as I am a 2nd year although, I am interested in coding and problem solving skills, I would definitely go for product based companies.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Fee is normalised, there is no any kind of hike in it. Cost of study is less compared to other IITs, so, financially, it is better than others'. Many scholarship schemes had been launched, for reserved quotas, or for achievers , or giving schemes for PG/PhD students. Average salary was 15-20 lpa after getting placement, and also PPO offers also come after internships. Although IIT Ropar is a budding 2nd Generation IIT, but it is developing faster.

Campus Life

4

Life at campus is awesome. Tech fest is Advitiya being conducted on January and Annual Cultural fest was Zeitgeist that conducted at April this year. Books and Journals are available 24*7 in libraries and everything is present that is being needed for students. All kind of sport activities are there, from Tennis, Basketball to Football , Cricket, etc. Coding , Robotics, CIM, Enactus, Enigma , quizzes, astronomy, etc. and many more clubs is solely run by students.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

Indian Institute of Technology Ropar

Exam Structure

JEE Advanced -2020-135

Admission

The process of admission was simply JEE Mains+Advanced, Mains was conducted 2 times the previous year and after passing it with a good score, Advanced was the selection criteria, around 2 Lakh students took that exam and based on the performance, 10,000 were selected. No, there wasn't any GD or interview in it. The JEE Mains was completely objective and Advanced was partially subjective having negative marking too.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I’d rate the curriculum like 7/10 in terms of relevance and comprehensiveness — it covers all the major CSE subjects like DSA, OS, DBMS, CN, AI, ML, Cloud, Cybersecurity basics, etc., and honestly that was one of the reasons I chose this course because at least the core subjects are solid even if PTU keeps some old-school stuff in the syllabus. The curriculum does prepare you for real-world stuff, but only to a point — like, if you focus on coding labs and projects you’ll be fine for internships, but if you depend only on classroom theory then it won’t help much because industry wants hands-on skills. For higher studies also it’s okay because theory depth in subjects like OS and DBMS is decent enough. But yeah, improvements are definitely needed — some subjects feel outdated, teachers should use more practical examples, and we need more real projects instead of copy-paste lab manuals; also some faculty teach directly from slides which gets boring fast. Exams come twice per semester (sessionals) plus the final end-sem around December/May; they’re mostly easy if you write long answers, but tricky if you rely only on understanding because PTU likes theory-heavy questions. Overall, the system works, but it could be way more practical and industry-focused.
