Remarks

Fill the admission form online. Make sure you don't fill the wrong application form (which I had done) i.e. check properly whether it's for pass course subject or honours subject. Minimum marks : >70 marks in the required subject. And overall it is said 60percent but I will suggest the more marks you will have better chance to get admission. There was one day for the verification of the documents (when it was offline). And one day of clearing 1st year program fees and submitting the required proof. Since I had applied for the BSc Physics honours course and was the *only college* I had applied in the belt of Asansol and I was said that it was the best college among the belt (Asansol, Durgapur and Raniganj). But unfortunately, I was a little bit disappointed. No complaint about the subject Professors and HOD, they are really kind-hearted, helpful towards the students in conducting exams, practicals and internals. About the academics, if you can do it on your own go for it.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

The university itself had conducted the exams lately(in 2018, 2019, 2020), but now since everything is in online exams and results are almost on time. Student teacher ratio in our batch(2018) : 50:15, In 2017 it was : 27: 12. Professors and HOD are very much helpful and kind-hearted. Although they are not all interactive to the students, if you have any problems you can contact the HOD and professors without any hesitation. Regarding academics I can if you are not teacher dependent to understand your subject then go for it, in fact, go for any such government colleges, but if you need special attention and focus towards yourself then go for private colleges. Almost all the Professors are doctorates. They have knowledge about the subjects in various ways and are ready to share with you most if you are curious.

Internships Opportunities

1.5

If you want to do an internship look into another source other than college. Because internship opportunities are irregular. If you are lucky u can come to know about such facilities from the Professors or from the seniors of the department. Very few students or classmates of your batch will show a keen interest in such things.

Placement Experience

2.5

If you are research oriented student I will suggest do masters after that from a reputed University. Reputed companies like WIPRO, TCS etc provide employment opportunities to various students through online mode. Students are eligible for placements in their final year of the degree. Since I opted for masters so I can not say what are procedures for the placements are. And unluckily we lost touch with our batchmates after the final year.

Fees and Financial Aid

Government College with affordable fees Around 6,000INR for whole first year program fees. A good canteen facility is available at quite an affordable price. Companies like WIPRO, TCS and many more etc provide placements for physics, maths and computer science course students. Placement cells, NCC, NSS, women cells are very active.

Campus Life

4.5

Ragging free campus. Full of greenery. Nature lover. Clean surroundings. Students are getting ample opportunities in cultural sides. But little less opportunity in the sports facilities and almost no opportunity in research oriented projects(for me This is heartbreaking). It is no doubt college fests are super exciting and many celebrities have been hired to perform. Students unions are helpful. Central Library has a huge collection of books. if you borrow any book u r allowed to keep during the course year but after that, u have to submit the books compulsorily, else u r exempted from sitting in exams(online/offline). Both online and offline libraries are available. NSS UNIT and NCC units are super active. P.s:- (If you want to participate in culture fest must join the NSS unit).

Hostel Facilities

3

Both the hostels(girls and boys) are inside the campus. For the girls, the hostel gate is closed around 6 pm. I stayed in the hostel for 6months in my 2nd year (although my house is around 16km away from the college) because of the ease of the course tuition. Hostel Life is too much fun and enjoyable if you make good friends. It depends upon you what types of roommates and friends you want to make. You can get peaceful surroundings for your study if you are focused. Rooms are three seaters and two floors of around 16rooms/floor with a Common bath for each floor. There's is one separate steel bed (without bedding) for each person and a total 6shelfs in the room. Food comes from outside and for that, it charges around 2500INR per month (as in 2018) for three times meal. Foods are edible and also it depends upon the contract cook.

Placement Experience:

College does provide internship opportunities both through the placement cell as well as department faculty. Semester 5 and Semester 7 students are eligible for placements. Average package is about 5.5 lakh per annum for microbiology course. Although placement percentage is on the lower side majority of students go for higher studies. Many prepare for exams like GATE, IIT JAM, etc.

college placements are good in this college with a number of good financial and consultancy firms coming in with new gen companies as well in the service and sales industry. moreoever getting a good placement in a top financial or consultancy placement requires a POR in a good society as a criteria, its not really required but adds to your chances of getting it. moreover you require to participate in a number of case study competitions for the same as well. my plans after graduation is probably working for a year or two after which i plan on doing my MBA. around 50-60% who apply get a placement.

The course also includes practical classes in the sound labs, editing labs and we will learn to use a camera, as one of the things we will have to do in this course is make films of our own.

In today's competitive job market it becomes important for the college to not just help students get degrees but also provide them with placements and internships so that they can have the experience needed to stand at a competitive footing with the rest of the candidates in the world. To look into this, St. Xavier's College has a Placement Cell run by Placements officer Mr. Niladri Sinha under whose guidance, various companies visit the college regularly looking for capable young minds to take under their wing and help provide them with the necessary exposure and experience so that they can combat any obstacles that they face.

The college offers good placements for economis. Students in their final year are eligible for campus placements and there is a cell dedicated to placements. Many students do not opt for placements and go for higher studies but many students who opt for it, get placed with decent packages. Many well-known companies visit the campus as well. I wish to explore my options after completing the degree as of now.

We have a placement cell helping students get placed. They keep posting opportunities like internships and fellowships throughout the year to groom students and give them exposure and experience. Placements can go to very high packages like those in Data Science, Big 4 consulting or core finance or banking jobs. CAs, CFAs and FRMs do well in the placements. The highest packages could surpass 12-13 LPA and median packages are close to 6-7 LPA. DE Shaw, Zomato, Myntra, Meesho, TCS and McKinsey are some top companies coming here.
