Remarks

Fairly smooth and straightforward; it was done through BITSAT, had to make an online preference list, report to the campus where you received an admission. There are options of sliding up and down your preference list if you do clear the cutoffs.

Course Curriculum Overview

2.5

The course is decent with low to moderate difficulty. Chose it out of interest. Major areas of mechanical engineering are covered, with a moderate level of practical knowledge provided. Faculty: student ratio is on the lower side, classes tend to be a bit crowded. Teaching methods are standard (PPT and lecture-based) with only selected faculty employing any unconventional means. Quizzes keep happening regularly, many of which are surprise tests. There is a mid-sem and an end-sem (compare) system.

Internships Opportunities

3.5

There are 2 corporate internships at BITS, which are called Practice Schools (PS). PS I takes place after the second year while PS II is a mandate (or you can opt for a thesis) for one half of the final year. There are many opportunities available at reputed companies.

Placement Experience

4.5

Placements are BITS Goa is really good, considering it's a Tier 1 college. Most of the students registering for placements end up with an offer. The highest package would be around 40lpa with the average being about 10-12 LPA.

Fees and Financial Aid

BITS is pretty expensive. You do get merit-based and MCN (merit-cum-need) based scholarships but on average, the cost is on the higher side. Internship and job opportunities are plenty, especially in IT and software, not so much in the core branches. An average stipend would probably be around 25k for the final year internship (Practice School II), but you need to pay a fee to obtain the PS station from the college.

Campus Life

5

Social life at BITS Goa is the best. Senior-junior interaction is a breeze, the seniors feel like your elder siblings right away. The clubs and departments are lovely (special mention to the Music Society of BITS Goa) and help shape you into the person you are. The culture is chill, helpful, and enjoyable, with no curfews whatsoever and food joints open till late. Sports at BITSG are also highly encouraged and supported, leading to some really good athletes and teams. The library is expansive and has a varied catalog. The cultural, tech, and sports fests of BITSG are called Waves, Quark, and Spree, and attract considerable crowds all over the country.

Hostel Facilities

4.5

Hostels are fairly well-maintained and comfortable. I got a single room in my first year and occupied the same for the remainder of my college life. The basics like a bed, desk and chair, and an almirah are provided. The washrooms are clean. You get three mess options (shoutout to the A mess) which provide really decent food for college messes. There's a weekly menu complete with delicious three-course meals. You get snacks in the evening and the night canteen is open from 11 PM to 2 AM, both of which provide food on a pro-rata basis.

Placement Experience:

Students can start sitting in placements from the start of 4th year , when the Placement Division starts bringing companies to the campus. The average package for CS is around 20-26 LPA, for Electrical branches it's around 18-24 LPA and for Mechanical and Chemical it is around 13-16 LPA. These figures would've changed though from the last time I saw. Around 85-90% of the students get placed usually. Top notch companies like Google, Microsoft , DE Shaw, Arcesium Cohesity Rubrick recruit students every year for the tech roles and other prominent companies like Flipkart, Sprinkle, Intuiut and Coin Switch come for managerial roles as well. There is even a chance of getting a PPO through Summer Internship Program which kikstarts in the 3rd year where students compete to get internship in these top companies. Overall , BITS Goa has impeccable placement statistics

I have no clue but the highest placements are in Computer and IT branches. Civil has probably the least placement. The quality is good thanks to IIT and NIT being in the same campus thus the big companies that come to those colleges also come to our colleges but they prefer those students more because NIT and IIT are more prestigious colleges.
