Remarks

Heritage College with NAAC Accredited A+ College with superb faculty, various courses, and excellent study atmosphere. Overall Scottish Church College is one of the best educational institutions in the country and my experience as a student of the college has been one of the best time of life spent. The management of the college maintains a very high degree of education.

Entrance Preview

I had passed out of my Class XII examination from Bihar Intermediate Education Council with more than 80% marks and opted to study Bachelor of Arts from Scottish Church College as the college is a heritage college with some eminent Alumni who have later in life become legends in their respective fields. Also the college offers a plethora of courses to opt from and has been accredited by NAAC as an A1 category college due to superb and experienced faculty, excellent results and infrastructure. The college also has a total of 6 hostel facilities for outstation students at a very low cost. Discipline is of utmost importance and the institution also boasts of an extraordinary study atmosphere to pursue any stream that a student wants to choose. A commendable part in the institution is the chapel that is present inside the college which hosts a prayer hall equipped with a church organ and regular morning mass held for any and every student who wants to attend. The institution also encourages students to take part in various college festivals organised by other institutions to make students competitive and competent in several fields. The college also has a legendary college festival which is immensely popular amongst all colleges in not just the city but the whole state of West Bengal named as Caledonia.

Course Curriculum Overview

5

My course curriculum included the following subjects and I was more than happy with the quality of education imparted by the experienced faculty associated with the institution. My teachers not only taught me academic parts from the course that the Calcutta University holds as mandatory, but also taught me to be a good human being, practical knowledge in life and industry level standards to be ready for the job circuit as soon as one finishes their course. Other than my stream the college has various other subjects to choose from in each and every stream with an additional management institution, mass communication and vocational training modules that any student may want to pursue. The quality of education imparted in each curriculum is extremely commendable. English Literature, Economics, History Sociology, Compulsory English, Elective English.

Internships Opportunities

Top level companies from across the country came for placement and/or internship offers which included; TCS, CTS, Ericsson, Wipro, TCG, Larsen & Toubro, Godrej, ITC, Ogilvy & Mather, JWT, Response India, Bates Chi, Rediffusion, Anandabazar Patrika, The Telegraph, Sanada, Times of India, The Hindu, The Asian Age, Bartaman, Sambad Pratidin, to name just a few. The stipend offered was both qualitatively commendable and also with offers for jobs as management trainees or other positions according to the academic result of the students.

Placement Experience

4.5

Placement offers were splendid by companies like TCS, CTS, Ericsson, Wipro, TCG, Larsen & Toubro, Godrej, ITC, Ogilvy & Mather, JWT, Response India, Bates Chi, Rediffusion, Anandabazar Patrika, The Telegraph, Sanada, Times of India, The Hindu, The Asian Age, Bartaman, Sambad Pratidin coming for on campus interviews held time to time. As a starting figure companies offered as per industry standards which to be more precise was varying between Rs. 7000 to Rs. 40000 as per the position offered to students. From each batch of an approximate 400 students in each stream; at least 50 percent to 70 percent of the students were offered offered placement in reputed organisations from across the country.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Fee structure for all courses in various streams were and are still very very affordable for students from every strata of the society. No matter what socio economic group a student belongs to, the fee structure is completely feasible for them.

Fees and Financial Aid

The college also offers scholarships to students with a very good academic result which is upto 100 percent free for them who fall in the category. Not only scholarships but books and study materials were and are provided to needy students at free of cost or nominal cost. The college also hosts a cheap book store from where students can buy not only books but any kind of stationary required for academic courses as well. Education loans are also easily available from almost all banks and accepted for studying each and every course for the benefit of students and their parents.

Campus Life

5

Campus life at the college was immensely fun. The college hosts a cheap canteen with clean and hygienic food available round the clock at subsidised rates. The staff are very friendly as well as the faculty members. As mentioned earlier, the college hosts regular debates, group discussion, science and robotics exhibitions and competitions for students. The events get active participation from all the students. The labs are very up to date with all modern amenities as required for a successful academic career. The college encourages participation in various festivals hosted by other colleges and also hosts intra and inter college competitions during festivals as well as sports events throughout the year with quality gear required for the same. The gender ratios are extremely modern and in sync with participation from both genders being a co-education institution. Regular hostel parties are hosted by students funded by both the college authorities as well as students themselves and there is no gender bias in any field across the college. Regular workshops are hosted by the college on various topics and issues and there are various opportunities to associate oneself with cultural societies in each every field. The discipline level is commendable and no bias is shown in regards to tolerance, gender ethnicity, religion or sexual orientation. The college holds a very good atmosphere for healthy students union without any form of violence whatsoever and students from any and every economic strata mingle and co-operate in unison without any disputes amongst the students. The college has no form of ragging and a healthy relationship is maintained between seniors and juniors.

Hostel Facilities

5

The college has six hostels with more than enough seats in each of them. Three out of these six hostels are for boys and three are for girls. The quality of discipline in the hostel is as commendable as the quality of food provided or available for both.

Alumni/Alumna

The college has an active alumni association with celebrated and legendary ex-students being a part of it. The alumni has members spreading across the globe in various eminent positions in esteemed organisations as well. There are regular meet-ups organised by the alumni and discussions are held for the betterment of the institution as well as the life and time in the campus for each batch of students. Seniors have always been helpful both in terms of imparting educational guidance and participating in fun activities with juniors.

Exam Structure

Regular Exams were held as class tests to keep students up to date with the course curriculum as well as final exam ready. These tests were given to each and every student no matter what stream or subject they chose. There were also 3 semester exams held.

Faculty

4.5

The faculty at the college are highly experienced in their respective fields and one of the best in each stream or subject. They had been very much helpful in imparting knowledge to each student with extreme patience and dedication.

Course Curriculum Overview:

My passion and a bit of curiosity in International Relations led me to choose this course. The curriculum, in fact, prepared me well for further academic pursuits. For improvement, educational excursions and internship opportunities should be made available. The exam is held twice a year on semester basis, with papers set at a moderate to difficult level.

Placement Experience:

There are limited on campus placement opportunities here, especially for Arts and Eng Hons students. Most students focus on higher studies, competitive exams or off campus opportunities after graduation. The college provides basic guidance through teachers but formal placement drives are rare.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The curriculum provides a comprehensive retrospective of literature from the Old English period to Modern period, while also including English works by Indian authors to demonstrate the diversity and evolution of English literature over the years. The current curriculum I believe requires more seminars and lectures from guest faculties on contemporary research and topics.

I love to read English and it's easy for me so that's why I choose it. There are a total of 50 students in this course. Our teachers are very helpful and talented and also support us. We have 2 semesters after 6 months in 1 year. Exams are comfortable for the students who study the subject. It is difficult for those who do not study.
