IHM KOLKATA- Review

We have to appear for the national level examination for taking admission in undergraduate or post-graduate courses in the prestigious central IHMs and state SIHMs. According to your rank, you get your desired college. After securing a rank and getting a college, we have to go to a nearby center for necessary documents verification. And if we want to freeze the college which we got or opt for selection in the second or third round. The closing rank of my college is under 3000 which varies every year. The admission process and document verification went very smoothly. All the staffs are nice and good.

We have four core subjects in the ug degree:- 1) Food Production 2. F&B Service 3. Accommodation Operations 4. Front Office and other side subjects:- computer, accountancy, nutrition, hotel engineering, food science, financial management, and strategic management. Faculty:student ratio is:- 1:20 (due to covid) usually, 1:60 There are well-qualified teachers and the teaching techniques are also commendable, teachers make sure that everything is cleared by the students and they had no doubt. There are 2 semesters per year and mid-term exams every semester.

There are a compulsory 4 months internship training in five-star hotels. Training is done to get in hand skills in all the four core departments of the hotel. training is tough and requires a lot of physical work but worth doing to learn the skills and get the practical experience.

College provides 100 % campus placement to its students. Many big Hotels like Oberoi, Taj, ITC etc come for the recruiting students from here. Alumni from Ihm Kolkata are working globally with big properties. Apart from Hotels, many retails also come for the recruitment like pantaloons, metro cash and carry etc. Salary ranges from 25k to 30k for MT and around 20k for OT.

The course is affordable although there is a slight hike in fees now. but one can easily avail to student loans and such schemes. The scholarship is also provided by third-parties. There is an internship opportunity as well where you can learn and earn a bit in the process.

The campus life is awesome. We have events and fests throughout the year. We have state cultural fests every year in which one Indian state is chosen and the entire decoration, dance, singing , putting up food stalls and everything is done according to the theme soleley by the students. We organize career east which in the largest career fest in the east India in which leading hotels and retail come for recruitment. Apart from that collgege celebrates every event and festival, namely women's day, diwali, fashion events etc. College library is good which is filled with a number of books ranging from course books to stories to magazines and everything. It is a well-equipped ac library. Apart from that college takes part in sports competitions as well among all ihms and other hospitality management college.

Hostel facility is provided for both boys and girls. There are single and sharing rooms. In shared rooms, there are 3-4 students staying together. full security is there. Hostel food is just the awesome in the whole world you can ask for with biryani every week. registration is simple and affordable. if looking for pgs, can opt-in parnashree or behala road.
