Entrance Preview

Kerala Engineering Agricultural Medical Examination. I scored a rank of around 20000. I opted this college since it was near my home. Also it was a new college started in 2009 so I was expecting better infrastructure, placements and good faculties.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

The course was B.tech in computer science and engineering. The course structure is interdisciplinary & research oriented in nature, with a focus on the basic sciences. First year of the course covers basis of civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering etc.second year focus on electronics and maths. 3rd and final year contains programming labs and projects.

Internships Opportunities

No there was no internship programs in college. There were 2 industrial visits during 2nd and 4th year.

Placement Experience

3

Only a few companies came to our campus for placements. One was speridian based on Trivandrum. They offered 20k per month. Only 3 students were placed for that company. After speridian, next year TCS came to the campus. Around 10 number of students were placed for TCS with package of 3.5LPA.

College Events

3.5

There were national level technical fest every year which was organised by different branches in the college. The first Tech fest was Encore which was organised by Computer science and Engineering students. It had various events like code challenge, gaming competition, hardware challenge etc. Also there were exhibitions as part of the fest.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Fee structure was according to government declared fee structure. For merit seat fee was 35000 per year. For management seat fee was 60000 per year. For NRI seat fee was 1 Lakh+ per year according to branches. Mechanical engineering seat is expensive than other branch seats. CSE has the lowest fee and has less number of students.

Fees and Financial Aid

I am not aware of any loan facility offered by college. But I have heard about scholarships for students coming form poor background with good marks.

Campus Life

4

Campus life was not bad. There were no strict rules other than strict in time. About gender ratio, except mechanical and electrical branches most of the students were girls. There were not much students from other states. So there were no diversity. There were national level technical fests every year conducted by different branches. Inter college sports competition were organised by college.

Alumni/Alumna

There are no alumni yet. We were the first batch of students in that college. We are planning to start alumni after discussing with the college management and other students.

Exam Structure

The course was semester based. Each semester duration is 6 months. So there were university exams every 6 months which include both theory exams and practicals. Apart from this there are series exams to evaluate internals for every student. There are 3 series exams in each semester. So number of exams are high and is giving pressure on students.

Admission

I got admission on the basis of my rank in KEAM. The admission process was simple. I was allotted to this college. I took a printout of the allotment details along with my original mark lists of 10th and 12th examination. There was lot of students already waiting to take admission. So it took a lot of time to complete the admission procedure.

Faculty

3

Overall I will rate 2.5 out of 5. Some of the faculties were freshers who just passed out after completing M.tech. They lack experience in teaching and how to handle situations. Some of them were unable to clear doubts related to programming or practical subjects. But there were some senior staffs with some industrial experience who were good in teaching and were really helpful.

Placement Experience:

The placement here is top notch. This year in my campus the highest CTC offered was 56.5lpa by PALOALTO. Placements process is centralised at coimbatore though. Students are eligible for campus placements from third year or s5. Average package in computing department ranges from 10-12lpa. My plans after degree is to pursue MS: opportunities of which are provided by the college itself. In computing department almost 90% of the students have been placed according to the seniors I talked to. However it is lower in other streams.

Civil engineering is a course with least placement in every engineering colleges. Students are placed during their fourth year in college. Sobha Constructions Ltd is one of the main companies that visits college. 200000rupees package is the average package offered. Les than 25 percent civil engineers get placed. I plan to prepare for GATE exam and pursue more in this course.
