Data Science at IIT Palakkad.Worth Joining!

This college first of all being new is under guidance of IIT Madras which is well known for its research and studies. Also it has Data science which being one of the best branch one-can choose today. Faculties are also expert in their domain and ready to help always. Course is well designed. All the required labs are there.As it is new IIT so construction is going on with good pace towards full fledge campus.Admission took place on the basis of GATE score. Admission took Place by COAP portal. Due to current pandemic admission process was delayed from usual dates of COAP.Yourpedia helped in selecting this college.

Being from Mechatronics background I was always interested in Machine learning and Artificial intelligence. After getting to know that IIT Palakkad is offering this course and looking at course curriculum without giving a second thought i applied for this.Faculties are having Ph.D. From IISC or foreign well known universities also good postdoctoral from very good universities in their respective fields.faculties have good in-depth knowledge of subject they are teaching and are always helpful for any problem. They focuses more on a knowledge gained by students and are very flexible towards taking exams and marking schemes.exams taken always test in depth knowledge students has gained and are more concept focused. Never have i ever felt that some subject requires cramming for something as questions are never asked in that way. I truly appreciate this.

Mtech students after completing first year becomes eligible for placement and We are the first batch of Data science here so placement is yet to be seen but looking at placement of btech CSE here and profiles of companies came earlier a good package can be expected for DS branch here.

Right now there is no hike in fees and cost to study is very less here. Approx 1.5 lacs in total for complete Mtech course.HTTA of 12400 is offered to GATE qualified students.So one can manage expenses through HTTA offered.Also internship opportunities are also good. Placement is yet to be happen for our batch but overall placement scenario here is quite good. And students get placed for very good package.

Various technical events and Inter IIT sports competition takes place in usual time but as due to pandemic on campus these events can't be conducted so lot of events like music fest on Ombere, body weight breakdown, various technical seminars are being organised online with various prizes.Regular yoga classes takes place through online platform to keep students active.Though being new IIT library is small but have all the required books and subscription to renowned publications and journals and students and access lot of papers at paid publications for free of cost using institute ID.Various student run clubs are also their like finance club, sports club, robotics club, e.t.c.

Hostels are quite good and big with remote controlled appliances. Hostels are regularly cleaned and rooms are quite spacious with lan connection and wifi also. 2-3 students stays in a single room. Washrooms are common but regularly cleaned. Inside hostels itself there is sports area.
