Remarks

As IIT Bombay is one of the Top Institute of India and as my area of Research interest also matches more with the work carried out in this institute, It was my wish to carry out my higher studies in this institute.

Course Curriculum Overview

3

As I want to pursue research in Biology in future, doing PhD from a reputed Institute is very much essential. As IITB is very much reputed institute all over India and the Globe, It was my First Preference to pursue my PhD degree in this Institute. In IIT each Professors undertake PhD candidates and depending on the designation and seniority of Professor. The no. of Candidates under a Prof. ranges from 6 to 12. In IITB almost majority professors have pursued their doctorate degrees from Prestigious University Abroad eg. Cornell etc. or at Prestigious Institute in India such as IISc, IITs and other good research institute in India with a post doc experience in abroad universities such Harvard, MIT, Oxford etc. Many of the professors at IIT are also awarded INSA, NASI young Scientist awards or Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Award (Most prestigious scientific award in India) or are the Fellows of the INSA, NASI and IAS Science academies which is very prestigious thing for any Indian Scientist. As PhD is not a Classroom degree, there are no exams as such conducted but instead there Annual Presentations are conducted for all students to showcase the improvement of their PhD research Work.

Internships Opportunities

0.5

I have just started with the course and also in PhD program internships are not conducted in any of the institutes in India or even Abroad. Hence its an invalid question.

Placement Experience

4

For PhDs Campus Placements are not conducted. But many people opt for Post doc positions at abroad or in India Itself. Many people apply for Faculty positions at different research institutes in India or abroad. (Govt. as well as Private)

Fee Structure And Facilities

Since 2016, the central Govt. has increased the fees of all these IITs, IISERs, NITs etc. Hence the tuition fees of PhD program per semester are raised to 25000 per semester with additional hostel, mess and gymkhana charges which increase the cost to 75k per semester for PhD Program. But IIT has given tuition Fee WAVIER from 25000 to 2500 per semester for students who have qualified any of the National exams which reduces the cost of fees to 50000 thousand per semester for these students. also the students who qualify any of these National exams get a stipend of 31000/m for 1st 2 years and 35000/m for remaining 3 years of PhD program.

Campus Life

5

Life is Pretty Cool. There are really good places and cafes to chill in Campus (Most Popular is Gulmohar). Also there is Powai Lake and Smeer Hills to chill at Aditinally. There is Also a Swimming pool and Badminton Court additionally in Campus.

Hostel Facilities

4

Hostels are good. Many PhD students usually get a Single room with Common Toilets. The mess Food is very Hygienic and tasty. It also serve variety of food. The Hostel Infrastructure is also very much nice.

Admission

A Candidate should posses a following qualification: BTech/MSc with (60% for UR, and 55% for Reserved Categories) with any of the following National exam Cleared (GATE/CSIR-UGC NET/ICMR JRF/DBT JRF/NBHM/DST INSPIRE Fellowship or any other Exams Granting Fellowship. The institute being a Autonomous institute fully owned by the state Govt of Maharasthra, has a Board of Management nominated by the Govt. of Maharashtra. The Chairman of the BoM is a renowned industrialist Mr. Sunil Raythaththa from Jalna and is having a vision of taking this institute at another height. The other members are also industrialist and are playing a vital role in leading this institute on a right technical path of progress.

Remarks:

Good remark is IITB is the best campus to stay and build a career fulfill the dreams and enjoy the student life to the fullest. Bad remark is Research quality should be improved as many of the faculties does not actively participate in building the research career. Faculties should also be evaluated for the quality of teaching and research. Placement for research scholars or industrial collaboration are very poor especially in basic science fields like biology, chemistry, physics and there is a need of interdisciplinary programmes to improve the quality of education and research.
