Remarks
As I had not given the ICAR exam, I applied for agriculture at Amity University. My experience with the admission process was online and it was pretty easy than expected. All you need to do is fill out some forms and if you have scored more than 80% (in 12th) they do not call you for an interview either- you are pretty much in. For those who do get the interview call, you need not panic. It is smooth enough, you will just have to do a few things- a written exam and some professors (of the course you have applied to) will have a one on one interview with you. In the one on one session, you will be asked some questions on your academics, extracurriculars and why did you choose this institute. If you face some difficulty in any step of the admission process, feel free to call the university, they are always there to guide you and they are pretty friendly.
Course Curriculum Overview
Agriculture further has lots of scopes. Trust me when I say this cause I myself was very sceptical about having chosen this field. And like me, if you have not given your ICAR exam, then why miss the opportunity Amity is providing for students? The department is smaller as compared to the other departments at Amity. But this gives us the added benefit of networking with our seniors and maintaining our bond with our professors. Speaking of the faculty, they are highly qualified professors in the institute. Most of them give their best in teaching and making you understand the given topic well. They are a highly dedicated team of faculty and love it when you throw questions at them, they are always available for your doubts and can visit them in their cabin whenever you want to clarify anything. The exams are pretty moderate, all questions are within the syllabus and mostly what the professor teaches you in the class is asked. So the key is paying attention in classes.
Internships Opportunities
The latest company that arrived at our department is JU Agri, which hired a student with a salary of 30000 (per month). The companies that do take students for placement are- IFFCO, Cormandal, BKC Weather's, skymat and other startups. The approx stipend received ranges between 20000-30000. The above information is only for Bachelor students.
Placement Experience
Amity has good placement opportunities. But specifically speaking- in our department, very few people get selected for campus placement. However, many good companies visit our campus. All in all, students with good score and academics get to sit in that placement vacancy.
Fees and Financial Aid
During the admission, the fee may be a little higher. But semester wise, the fee is pretty moderate and affordable. The highest semester fee charge during the entire course is- 50500. You get lots of scholarship opportunities too. During admission, if you have scored more than 90%, some percentage of the initial fee gets waived. While at the university, if you score the highest for two-semester straight, then you get a scholarship. And there are many more such scholarship opportunities provided by the university.
Campus Life
There are loads of festivals and days to celebrate at Amity. I guarantee you won't miss out on your social life on campus. The most important days and celebration to look forward too is the Amity Youth Fest and Sangathan. Amity Youth Fest is a student fest organised by Amity and many celebrities have inaugurated this event in the past years. It is celebrated with great pomp and show. The other celebration is Sangathan, which is held annually for a month. It is a sports event, and many student-athletes get an opportunity to showcase their talent. Although it lasts a month, the preparation for this by the athletes and people participating in this event starts from a month or two before. This is the best time of the entire year and students like me, look forward to Sangathan. Besides these, other festival celebrations take place- like Janmasthami, Onam and many more. In our department, we have four clubs and they are all superb in their sphere.
Hostel Facilities
The hostel rooms are tidy. I fear cockroaches the most, but there are no bugs in the hostel rooms. Some people come to pick up your garbage and clean your room every day in the hostel. It's pretty safe for women and they take your security very seriously. The wardens are friendly and you can always approach them with any problem you face. The meals have to be bought separately (daily- whenever you eat) and they are affordable and come with many options to choose from. There are options of where would you want to eat as well. The food quality is good too and the serving staff are really helpful. The registration process for the hostel is on a 'first come, first served basis. Meaning, the people who register and pay for the hostel earlier get the rooms faster and the ones who run late don't get rooms if they are all booked. The fee of the hostel is 175000 in the first year (for AC accommodation). You get affordable options as well (non ac rooms).
