Remarks

There are good things and bad things about every college. This college is no exception. I think the management can play much more active role in getting more placements for the college with more attractive packages. More scholarships can be given to meritorious students.

Entrance Preview

GATE. I chose this college as I got admission in power electronics and drives for mtech here. The course is one of the most preferred courses by electrical engineers anywhere.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

The course content is quite contemporary in its structure and is well suited for the industry with projects. There are a good range of electives depending on your interests to choose from in your second semester and you can do some audit courses as well.

Internships Opportunities

Yes college does provide a few internships. It requires you do well in your academics. For those people the stipend and experience is very good overall.

Placement Experience

4

There are placement opportunities for people studying. For MTECH people, people usually get placed into some core companies or the universities for faculty positions. Pay packages range from medium range (6-8 LPA) to high (8-12 LPA) depending on how well you do.

College Events

5

Cognizance is the annual tech fest of college. Thomso is the cultural fest of the college. The best time you spend in the college is during these annual fests. The atmosphere is very lively and students just love it. Apart from these the different activity centres in the college organize various social, cultural and technical activities.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure is very moderate. The fee structure nowadays keeps getting revised every now and then but its still less from what people shell out in private universities and colleges. Banks inside the college provide you with loans on the day of admission.

Fees and Financial Aid

Scholarships are available, although they are very very few. This is one area, where I think IITR has to improve. Loan facilities are provided by two of the banks inside the college premises during the admission time.

Campus Life

4

Campus life is chilled out and you will have the best time of your life here. You get opportunities to pursue various interests of your life. Facilities and playgrounds are superb. There are a lot of places around for travelling as well. Labs and libraries are quite good. There are a few foreign nationals studying here as well who come here through some student exchange programs.

Hostel Facilities

4

The hostel facilities are good. There is hostel management committee voted every year elected by students of the hostel who work for the betterment of hostels and mess for the hostel. The menu for the mess is selected by the students from the management committee.

Alumni/Alumna

There is an alumni network although I'm not sure how I much I actually got benefited from them. There are occasional seminars organized where distinguished alumni from the college deliver a lecture.

Exam Structure

Students get to do a lot of assignments and workouts during the course. There are mid sem exams and lab examinations in between. The usual working day is not very hectic and students do get a lot of time to chill out. The third and fourth semesters are quite chilled out and you get ample time to pursue your interests apart from projects and seminars.

Admission

You have to write GATE and then again either write the eligibilty test and/or attend interview for the department to get admission to MTECH. In my case, there was a written test for admission in Electrical Engineering department followed by counselling.

Faculty

4.5

Faculty are quite good in their field and very knowledgeable. They are very approachable with respect to doubts and guidance. And very cooperative even during the project phase. They keep pushing you to excel in your project and seminars. They are inspiring.

Indian Institute of Remote Sensing - [IIRS], M.Tech In Remote Sensing & GIS (with Specialization in Water Resources)
Reviewed on Jun 8, 2021(Enrolled 2018)

Remarks:

For the higher studies in Remote Sensing & GIS, IIRS (ISRO) is the best institute in India. The personal preference would be Masters over the Diploma course since the Masters programme includes a 14 month project towards the end of the course, in which the researcher gets to work under the guidance of experienced scientists from ISRO. A drawback of the course would be that the syllabus is demanding and the exams are tightly scheduled.
