Remarks
The enrollment of the students was based on their score in the twelfth grade(The score of PCM\B without considering the marks of the practicals). The students are supposed to go through the process of counseling where they are required to choose three main subjects and two optional subjects. The allotment of the preferred subject is subject to the availability of seats and the cutoff of that subject in that specific year.
Course Curriculum Overview
The curriculum is well structured and readies all the students for the entrance exams such as JAM and GATE. The MSc Geology curriculum is at par with the curriculum of IITs and NITs. Most of the faculty members have PHDs in their respective fields and are masters of their subjects. Clearing the exams isn't difficult at all if you know what is being taught in the class. Even scoring good grades isn't that difficult provided you refer to the prescribed books from time to time. The Profs mostly rely on traditional teaching methods and occasionally on digital methods.
Internships Opportunities
The faculty lays a great emphasis on the internships of the students. Usually, all the master's students intern in ONGC and occasionally GMDC. But for UG students, there are hardly any internships, but on request, professors might consider taking them somewhere for an internship. But, it is to be noted that there are hardly any geology-related placements not only here but all over the country except in ISM Dhanbad and BHU. If a student doesn't clear GATE, then he is virtually out of options.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fee charged is minimal. ( 9000/- for males and 7000/- for females. In addition to all the national scholarships which a student can avail of, the university also offers scholarships to students belonging to economically weaker sections. Since Bsc related jobs are virtually nonexistent nowadays, one can't expect to get a job right after their Bsc.
Campus Life
When it comes to fests, no other university in Gujarat can compare to MSU. The fests usually begin around November, and go on till February the second week or so. Each department organizes its own fest. Ignite is the annual feast of the geology department which is usually held in January. The MSU Pavillion has numerous sports and training facilities for all the students. The science faculty has the nationally renowned Hansa Mehta Library which has a very rich collection of books that cater to the needs of students of all the years and courses. The other library is SSMT library which is specifically for the first and second-year undergraduate students. There is a Club that goes by the name Alfaaz, which provides a platform for all the students to showcase their skills in poetry.
