What Students Say
Likes
- The aspect of the college which I appreciate is that there is no bias and everyone is treated equally by the faculty members. It is such a relief especially when you are from a different state.
- All the faculty members hold a proper degree and I like to believe that they are very knowledgeable.
- My engagement with the campus life and the quality of social interaction is moderate. It depends on the individual.
Dislikes
- It takes time to get approval for anything since it's a government organisation.
Course Curriculum Overview
The main reason I chose this course was my interest in solving crimes and forensic science. Here they teach you well how to analyse crime scenes and analyse the collected evidences. The practicals are really fun. The exams are conducted very frequently which might be a bit exhausting.
Internships Opportunities
We usually get internships in forensic science laboratories with no stipend. If you are on the Delhi campus, you can try at DRDO, CFSL, NCRB etc as well. The lab work will be taught as well as crime scene examination and previous case studies.
Placement Experience
My course and the placements are mostly government-related. We go to forensic science laboratories (FSLs) which are all over India for jobs. We can be recruited as scientific officers or scientific assistants etc. In Kerala, I have to give the PSC examination for recruitment.
Fees and Financial Aid
The year-wise fees I paid and am currently paying are 1,01,000 (50,500 per semester). However, since I am in the 2022-2027 batch, the fee structure differs from the current one. It is around 60,000 per semester for the new batches. This amount includes the tuition fee, registration fee, Sem end examination transcript fee, library fee, laboratory fee, examination fee and computer fees with internet fees. The fee amount is the same for everyone even if they are in different categories. The admission is based on merit which is decided by the university entrance exam called NFAT. For the first 5 ranks, a scholarship will be provided by the university.
Campus Life
There are a lot of student-run groups, clubs etc on the campus. Every year there will be freshers, NFSU day, cultural day in October starting and sports day in the month of February. Except for these Onam celebrations in September, garbha night in October and much more are celebrated. We have access to all the necessary books and even an e-library. Enough instruments and exposure are also provided.
Hostel Facilities
It is a 2-share room with an attached bathroom. There is a bunk bed and 2 study tables. The maids clean the room daily and the bathroom twice a week. The meal quality is okay and it is vegetarian but you can order from outside. Only the first-year students will be provided with a hostel room. For an a/c and non a/c room, there is a different fee amount. While I was staying in the hostel it was 75,000/semester for an a/c room and 56,000/semester for non a/c room. The locality provides a lot of PG and flats for students and they are affordable. The locality in which I stay is safe as it is a gated society.
Admission
I didn't apply to any other college since I was really focused on getting my admission to this college. The university comes under ministry of Home Affairs and is an institute of national importance. I cleared the university entrance exam NFAT to get into this college.
Faculty
The faculty-to-student ratio could be 1: 3 in my observation. All of the faculty members are approachable and they will help you with any difficulty you are facing. I am preferring not to make the faculty members but there are extremely good ones and bad ones as well. Overall it is manageable. There will be 3 theory exams and one continuous assessment. The exams are usually easy. Not many students fail the exams. The course curriculum is relevant to real life scenarios.
Night Life
There is a campus gym which is available till 10pm, a cafeteria till 6pm, a library till 7-8pm, and access to the campus is available till 10:30pm. For students staying in the campus hostel, the timing to enter the campus is 10:30pm. The locality is not really safe, so you can hang out in groups rather than alone.
