Great experience

It was a new field for me so I had a great time at my college learnt new things, got market knowledge college management was also fine as i was from middle class family, it was bit expensive for my parents to co-op with my studies expenses.

I did not required to give any entrance exam however, the admission process starts with your personal interview. My HSC score was 66%. I was always lean towards drawing n designing so I wanted to do fashion designing course. As I had inquired from various institutes I came across NIFD. NIFD was offering degree from Annamalai University along with specialization in Fashion Designing. Hence, I opted for NIFD.

There were six monthly 6 semester for three years which included theory n practical works with all subjects like pattern making, embroidery, basic designing, croquie, color making, English, elementary designing, dress making, fabric embellishments, etc for 5 semester and in 6th semester included participation in fashion show organized by NIFD.

There was not any internship program, but we got the experience for preparing for the fashion show in which we had to made the theme board and accordingly make theme designs, then make actual dresses for models.

There were no placements from college and did not join any company for job as I was looking open my own venture so I gained some experience for about 6 months at various manufacturing unit and then started my boutique and I had earned well but after marriage I have not started anything in this field i am presently doing job in KPO company.

Every year there is fashion show event organized by NIFD and it is lots of fun and gaining experience to participate in those events. Then, there is study tour organized, we went to Jaipur for two days. There we visited various garment manufacturing units for first time and learnt a lot practical things.

At that time it was expensive am talking about 10 years back. It was 35000 per year. Then there are lots of other expenses such as purchasing material for designing like sheets, colors, drawing material, fabrics, samples, embroidery material, fabric embellishment material, traveling to different places to get the things done.

I don't have any information on that i don't know if NIFD offers such facility of scholarship or loan or internship facility.

There are various parties, outings, workshops organised from NIFD for students there are cultural programs in our city so we get passes from NIFD for cultural programs. Campus life was good, fun n enjoyable.

I have not used hostel facility however, there is no hostel or mess facility offered by NIFD. I stay at the same place with my parents in same city where is my college.

We rarely had any interaction with our seniors as we are the pilot batch for degree course offered by NIFD before that NIFD offers only diploma courses.

There is a test every 3 months and exams every six months after each semester and in third year the final exams there are practical exams & theory exams as per the subjects.

Faculties of college were knowledgeable, very helpful for each subjects there were different faculties some were permanent n some were for particular subjects only they teach us theory and practical for all subjects in college n outside college also.
