PSIT at a glance

Other than PSIT Kanpur I applied for Manipal University, Vellore institute of technology, HBTU etc. The primary reason for not going to these colleges was that most of them were very far from my home town, in some of the colleges I was not eligible for the branch I wanted to study in and in some the fees was too high for the experience they were providing. I did not avail any type of quota for my admission to my college. The admission criteria for my program is 60% or above marks in 10th and 12th standard and a minimum 60% PCM aggregate in 12th standard, and for admission, the student must pass an aptitude test of 30 minutes for admission. My admission process was fairly smooth and easy, I was given a date by the University on which I had to show up physically at the institute I choose, I had to get my documents and candidature verified by the institute officials, it took hardly 3-4 hours for the whole process.

I choose this course because I see that having experience in this field of expertise will give me access to one of the most viable and sustainable sectors of current and future professions. The faculty to student ratio in my institute is decent enough, which is about 1:35 and the qualifications of faculties on an average ranges from graduate to postgraduate and some rare PhDs, most technical faculties have a b.tech or M.tech degree and are enthusiastic and interactive in their teaching and very seriously believe in live feedback for effective teaching. In normal conditions, the exam's are strictly held according to the declared schedule during the starting of the academic year, and passing in the internal and external assessments along with practicals without proper yearlong planned preparation is tough as the exams assess the student's capabilities and effort both in a theoretical manner as well as the application of that knowledge.

Internships are offered by Infosys, TCS etc. The various companies have different criteria for recruiting interns, having a well directed and throughout the project is a must for every one of them. Projects are usually started by the students in the 3rd semester and by the final year the expertise of the student due to their project start to significantly surface.

Students are eligible for campus placements just after the 5th semester in the 6th semester. The companies that normally visit are, Infosys, Wipro, TCS etc, these companies give the highest package of 7lpa and average package of 3-3.5lpa. Well above 80% of students who go for placements get offers. My plans after getting the degree are to get a decent placement and then gain experience of 2-3 years, and thereafter get a management degree from a reputed college.

First of all my college is a college with extremely high ROI (return on investment), which implies it offers the most value for money and bank for the buck courses which are extremely valuable but charge just a fraction of that value. The fees for b.tech core branches range from 115000 to 125000 per annum and the computer science course is around 155000-160000 per year, and a fees hike of 2-5% can be expected for the following years. Various types of scholarships are available by the University as well as the institute, ranging from merit and exceptional performance scholarships to fee offs and scholarships to aid candidates with weak financial status.

The techno-cultural fest held each year between February to march in my college is called IGNITIA. The availability of books for the development of skills and self study is in ample volume, not only technical but books of literature entertainment and daily read novels are also there along with periodic newspapers and magazines in the library. Classrooms are the best thing about my institute, as they are extremely modern and maintained, they incorporate a central air conditioning system with well lit and well ventilated theatre type stepped classes with projectors and comfortable seats. For hostellers there are a lot of sports activities too, to help the students lead an active routine. There are more than 10 clubs for people with various fields of interest that help to groom the individual to the personality he or she wants to be.
