Chemical engineering at IITB.

IIT Bombay is one of India best colleges. It provides great exposure and countless opportunities in every aspect. The courses are relevant and the faculty is world class. Research laboratories are appropriate and a lot of attention is paid on research work. Mtech admits are done through GATE. Chemical engineering is best taught at IIT bombay in India. There are no such drawbacks if you are inclined towards engineering by heart.

Mtech at IIT Bombay is like building a bridge between btech and industry, it fixes up the missing part which a btech graduate lack. Since I have done my btech in polymer science and chemical technology, In order to be at par with industry standards and increase my knowledge i joined Mtech in chemical engineering. Faculty is world class, all of them are highly educated from reputed universities in the world. They are really experts in their respective fields. Most of them are reputed research fellows. The curriculum here at IIT Bombay is well laid. We have weekly quizzes and assignments. Mid term exams and end term exams have typically highest weightage. The college is very strict on discipline. As the motto says-knowledge is supreme, the exams are set in order to test real knowledge. The questions usually are tricky and require brain.

Not applicable as i have not opted for any internship yet. All mtech admits get stipend of12400/month by MHRD. Mtech is associated with TA/RA(Teaching assistanceship/ Research assistanceship). Teaching assistanceship is being teaching assistant to a professor.

Writing this specifically for mtech chemical engineering Placements are fairly well to excellent. Students of mtech become eligible from 3rd semester for placements. IITBombay has an established training and placement department. For chemical engineering major recruiters are Piramal, Hindustan Unilever, ITC, exxon mobil, Sekisui etc. Students have a choice between core and non corr jobs thats the best part. Highest salary offered in mtech chemical engineering in 2020 is 19lpa. The profiles offered are- graduate engineer trainee, computational scientist, research associate, business analyst, data scientist etc. Median remains around 7-8lpa. Since in mtech not many students register for placements in chemical engineering as they want to study more and gain more expertise on the subject. The placed to registered ratio remains around 70-75%.I will definitely participate in placement session.

Mtech admits at IITs are granted scholarship by MHRD 12400/month. The fee structure for Mtech course is pretty lean. No hefty amounts are charged. One can simply use their stipend in order to pay tuition fees.

Due to coronavirus pandemic, I still havn't got a chance to enjoy the campus life as our course is completely online since last year. Even through online mode a lot keeps going on in the college. IIT bombay hosts mood indigo in the month of december,thats the biggest college fest in Asia. Really keen to be at college campus and enjoy my students life once again.

One has to clear GATE with good rank in respective branch then appear in counselling. No Group discussion or personal interview is conducted before the final selection of candidates. GATE checks the technical knowledge along with general intelligence. 6-8months of preparation is enough to crack GATE with good rank.
