
Remarks
The financial burden in Department of Business management is minimum and does not bother anybody. However I would rather say that the entire course of Management should be mostly Practical then theoretical. Marking schemes should change as More emphasis should be given on day to day project analysis and assignments.
Entrance Preview
After a I passed Physics Honours I took an exam under department of Business management , University of Calcutta. The entrance exam is through CAT with score above 50 percentile.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum was more theoretical than Practical. However It helped us .There were 4 streams Finance,Marketing,personnel, Systems. I opted for System Analysis and Design and Operations Research . The course curriculum involves economics,statistics, accountancy,computer applications,econometric s etc. I scored about 60 % and passed out.The course is approve by AICTE and degree provided by Calcutta University
Internships Opportunities
No this department does not provide internship or any kind of stipends.However faculty members do find opportunities for projects and internship in various companies and help them with projects as guides.
Placement Experience
Each year some companies approach in recruitment drives and absorb students from MBM. However Department of Business management does not guarantee any job. Recruiter from companies like Indian Oil, Genpact, metal junction,Berger, Technocrat, Price water house etc has recruited in past.
College Events
Management festivals , get together with senior passed out students were organised by students of department of Business Management. This help us in getting insights of current requirements of industry. festivals took place once a year for 2 days in some good hotels or resort near Kolkata. Apart from this regular events like group discussion, quiz, industry visits, debates and presentations takes places.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fees structure were extremely low compared to other Management institutes as mostly the course were subsidized by Government. The fees Rs. 16508/- currently for 2 years including Rs.10000/- for facilities.The fees structure is feasible and quite inexpensive as such no loans are required.
Fees and Financial Aid
As the fees structure is quite reasonable no scholarship or loans were needed for following this course.
Campus Life
The gender ratios among students in Department of Business management is 1: 4 with almost all the female candidates scoring very high. The students mostly belonged to Bengalis coming from Kolkata. However some Non Bengali students were present as well. There were no discussion on race or religion as such among us. Nos sexual abuse or any incident happened in campus. However some group ism existed among us which is quite natural.
Hostel Facilities
There are 17 Halls and Hostels under the University of Calcutta providing accommodation to about 2000 students studying in the University Colleges of Arts, Commerce, Science, Technology and Law and also the undergraduate students of the colleges as well as men research scholars/fellows of the University. Management of Halls / Hostels is executed by Board of Residence, an advisory body of the University of Calcutta. However only outstation students avail hostel facilities. Those coming from Kolkata prefer to stay in private boardings.
Alumni/Alumna
Senior students were extremely helpful in giving inputs in how to score better marks .like sharing notes with juniors, helping out with best quality books available and important chapters to follow. They also helped us to find good jobs in Markets.
Exam Structure
The exam structure is mostly theoretical with question papers with pen and answer scripts. along with they have Practical tests and viva .Mostly traditional marking systems are followed here. Exams took place once in a semester. In the first 2 semesters there will be 8 papers each and in last two semesters there will be 6 papers per semester.
Faculty
The teachers and other guest faculty Members were highly qualified, with in dept knowledge on the subjects they taught. There were cooperative and helpful.The teachers are highly qualified and quite experienced. Most of the faculty members hold PHD degrees and has been teaching as University Professor for many years.
