Review of IIMA

It is the best college across India for Management. The admission is a two-staged procedure, where the first one has to take the CAT examination, followed by shortlisting given as per the cluster and then AWT-PI. The college gives a lot of importance to diversity, as it enhances the discussion in the class. They have divided all the undergrad degree into 6 clusters, and accordingly gives shortlist calls (Details are available on the website) with respect to learning, the college follows a case based approach that enables the student to actually apply the concepts we learn. The class is divided into groups of 5/6 students who have to study together in that term, hence we have already discussed the case once before we come to class. It is quite important to have pre-class reflections and post-class reflections along with the in-class. I really liked the entire experience when I had heard about this from my alumni and did wish to learn from the best faculty and Peer group.

The course is usually case-based, where the case ranges from HBS to some written by our own faculty members. The Professors here have studied from top colleges and are masters in what they teach, they know what they are talking about. It is imperative for one to do pre-class reading, as there is heavy weightage given to the in-class participation. We have marks ranging from 10% to 30% for Class Participation, depending from course to course. There are three terms per year, further divided as 2 slots per term. The end of each slot sees exams. Each faculty member decides how he wishes to assess the student in that course. Some course has exams, while some have projects and assignments. The grading is relative and follows a normal distribution curve. If one studies well, it is easy to score well. It is said, 'It is very difficult for anyone to fail at IIMA.'

One can sit for placements or come with an off-campus offer (if any). The placement cell provides enough opportunities to ensure everyone is placed. There is a system of a dream, which enables one can take an additional offer after receiving an offer in a previous cluster. The placements are the best across India. It is only one of the 5 to get audited and officially published. There are two placement procedures that a student goes through. The summer internship is mandatory as per the course, which is supposed to happen between the two years. The placement of the same happens around Nov-Dec in 3 clusters, which is decided as per the batch. Then the Final Placement happens in Second Year, around Feb in a similar fashion. The fees are comparable with similar college. It ranges around Rs 23 Lakh for two years, which includes everything, except mess charges. 100% bank loans are provided by all the banks, with many giving loan without any mortgage or guarantor. The only thing you need to do is get admit, and then you don't need to think of finances. Along with this, there are many Government, Institutional and Private scholarship available at the campus. The process is simple and each scholarship's criteria is explained well to the batch at the start of the year. The Placements at the campus are one of the best across the campus. With the package here, one can easily pay off the loan in less than 2 years. It is one of the only 5 colleges which audits and publishes its placement report.

Cultural Festival: Chaos. Management Festival: The Red Brick Summit (TRBS). Inter Section Cultural Competition: T-nite. Inter Section Sports Competition: Aakrosh. Inter-Sports Festival: Sangharsh (IIMA, IIMB, IIMC and IIML). We have a huge 100-acre campus, with various sports amenities like sports court, tennis court, football ground, cricket ground, volleyball ground. Table Tennis is put across the play area of dorms. Every day, there are at least 2 events going on of some of the other club out of 46 clubs. Students actively take part in them, while managing their academic routines. There are some corporate events also organised, where many students become National winners.

We call the hostel building a dorm. There are about 35 dorms across the two campuses, which are connected through a subway. On each floor, about 10 students stay. Each person is given an individual allotment of room, with no-sharing. The dorm fees are a part of the college fees. No additional charges. The cleaning of rooms and dorms happen twice a day.

AWT: Ban of additional homework on students apart from given in school. 5 minutes to think and 20 minutes to write and 1 side ruled sheet. Since it was before Covid, it was a pen and paper style.
