Course Curriculum Overview

4

Specifically for commerce, we have the best teachers and professors in the city. We have variety of specialisation to choose from. Marketing, Sales, Business admin, Accounting, financial management, banking, and others. Based on someones ability to grab, one can choose a subject of their choice. These subjects can be specialisation, however, you have to study general subjects, English, Alternative English, Hindi, Regional Language ( if any), Business Economics and others.

Internships Opportunities

No, nothing as I have heard so far. While I was graduating, I have not seen or heard of any internship program.

Placement Experience

3

Yes, campus placement happens sometimes. Lately, I have observed many companies coming to the college to assess students on marketing, business, BPO, media and other fields. I hope it has changed more now and more and more campus placements are happening.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Fee structure differs for courses. However, its not really expensive. Special category is given to SC/ST/OBC and they receive their fee refunded as scholarship annually.

Fees and Financial Aid

Yes, as mentioned, students falling in Schedule Caste, Schedule tribes and Other Backward Classes are refunded their paid fee as scholarships. They can use the same money to pay next year fee and still get those refunded. There is no scholarship program as such. Fee is not super heavy to take a loan. However, if you still wish to take a loan, then education loans are provided by all the banks. The college is NAAC accredited and is recognised nationally. So you won't face any trouble.

Campus Life

4

Campus life is good. You will find more locals than the outsiders. Sometimes, you may have to be extra cautious as some rotten souls may wish to rag you. However, ragging is not permitted but on a few occasions you may find difficult. The gender ratio will be 5:3 ( 5 boys and 3 girls). You will lot many co-curricular activities. More information can be gathered here.

Hostel Facilities

2.5

We dont have a hostel. However, you can get private hostels at nearby locations. Food is provided my local canteen staff within and outside college premises. You would love the delicacies of Shillong. I enjoyed a lot. You may get a good hostel within a radius of 5 kms for around 4k to 5k with food. If you wish to stay in luxury, then you may have to shell another 3 to 4k.

Alumni/Alumna

Yes, there would be connect program every year. It is called Shillong College Alumni Day. Last year it was 16th August. However, you won't find alumni around to help you. Once college is done, there won't be anyone. Seniors are okay, they mind their own business, however, if you want a help or something, they are always approachable except for a few rotten souls.

Exam Structure

We have two main exams in a year in additional to weekly or monthly unit tests. The Unit Tests are sole decision of professors and they can take the test as deemed necessary. The first exam, is the qualification exam. You need to get through this exam to sit for the mains. Questions however will be same as the mains. Once you are done with Qualification round, you are allowed to sit for the main exams.

Faculty

4.5

The teachers are amazingly good and highly experienced. That is the reason, I guess most of the students from other colleges, prefer to take extra classes from Shillong College Professors. The college has a huge curriculum and professors had to be always on their toes to get them complete. However, they manage time pretty well and for any doubts, you can easily approach them.

Placement Experience:

the students from 4th Semester above are eligible for the campus placements. the college placement cell provides each and every opportunity to the students and to influence the students to not only be good in the academics but to also have extra curricular activities. the college placement cells always conducts online or offline meetings with the students, to hell them faced the real world and to not be covered in a bubble shell. they brings people from outside to conduct the meeting and select students who are capable. Many companies has offered placement for the students from our college, companies from the country as well as outside the country. the highest package is 30000 and average package is 5000 as offered by the company. the percentage of students getting placements is 95% out of 100%. the remaining 5% may have their own reasons to not go for the placement or they are not selected for the placement. My plans after getting my degree is to continue with my UPSC, i don't have any other plan apart from UPSC.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Since the college name itself suggests that it has Commerce in it so the Commerce department teachers and course were very relevant and facilities like issuing books from library is there for students who can't afford to buy books and apart from books we also have journals and newspapers for our reference. Besides, there are computers in the library for us when we need to do any presentation or any other work. It is helpful for students. Though the name has Commerce in it, the college also offers course for Arts stream, i.e. BA.
