Remarks

Everything is average about management as things have been mishandled as far as my experience goes including shifting of examination in the morning just 2 days earlier and many more mistakes have come toy notice which should not occur in a NIT. This college can do far better from my perspective presently it's just above average for infrastructure and management but it's name has always come to its rescue.

Entrance Preview

I passed Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) with a score of 677 and rank under 3000. I got seat for specialization in CAD-CAM, my preferance was on selecting branch rather than college though as I couldn't get any good branch in southern based NIT like NIT W, NIT T and NIT K ;I had to settle with this option, it's a fine NIT as far as northern region is concerned.

Course Curriculum Overview

3

Course structure is well designed though exam structure is good with a tough part .Students have to appear for two exams namely 20 marks mid term and 60 marks end term and 20 marks on assignments and attendance ,tough part is a few professors cover a lot of syllabus for 20 marks exam and make a 50-60 mark paper for that syllabus that creates an extra burden as there are no practices separately to rescue your grades if some how you couldn't manage to prepare fully for mid term.

Internships Opportunities

No internship through this college as per my present knowledge, neither people are allowed to explore for the same in 2nd year of masters. Stipend is provided according to amount set by MHRD which is around 12400 /- per month.

Placement Experience

2.5

For M.Tech opportunities are scare as always, though being experienced before joining M.Tech may give you a launch pad. However this NIT is quite old and thus has rich network of alumni which always helps, teaching jobs can be fetched easily but industrial job requires more dedication in TPO and exams.

College Events

3

Recently a technical event called AVISHKAR has been organized, freshers party and farewell are always part and parcel of an educational institution. People actively participate and are motivated especially in B.Tech as some of cream lot from JEE main take admission here. Overall this institute is active in these matters.

Fee Structure And Facilities

It's very cheap I guess compared to other NITs though facilities are also not very sophisticated, this is usually a matter with old institutes, I got really discouraged when I first saw this institute hostels and messes, though it may not be good per royal standards but quite acceptable for survival

Fees and Financial Aid

I don't have much knowledge as I belong to general category. Other categories which are reserved may have this privilege according to either category or yearly income criteria.

Campus Life

3

As I said this is a quite old college and appears as if they had no plans for expansion. Some hostels are outside campus and students have to travel a Km or few to reach preffered destination which is tough if you are a pedestrian, a bicycle can come to your rescue. In M.tech mechanical gender ratio is usually record low but can't say about this with respect to B.TECH. Sports facilities are not up to the mark, play ground here can be a good grazing plot for cows and buffalos.

Hostel Facilities

2.5

Every day we have a potato fest, this is sad part no body likes to have same veg dish all the time, good part is food quality, I never found foreign things in my food plus sweet dishes are served almost every night overall it's good and healthy but requisites improvements in sitting arrangements.

Alumni/Alumna

Seniors are good, NIT and IIT have always been a symbol of diversity with unity and this has always stood tall everytime. Freshers party is very good platform to communicate with them though requirement of second hand cycle always attract freshers towards them before the event. Can't comment about alumni network for M.Tech but is usually good for B.Tech.

Exam Structure

Students have to appear for two exams namely 20 marks mid term and 60 marks end term and 20 marks on assignments and attendance, final assessment is done out of 100 and grades are allotted accordingly.syaalbus for exams is usually not fixed results are assessed on CGPA basis. pattern is repeated every semester for four semester period for M.TECH. Assignments type depends on teachers whether it be standard knowledge accessing or paper wasting clerical type.

Admission

Admission procedure is monitored by CCMT every year for all NITs and a few centrally funded instituts like IIITs , aspirants with a good gate score have to apply separately for CCMT. According to schedule 3 rounds are conducted followed by an intra college 4th round. The counseling concludes with a National Spot Round (NSR),this is just an outline of the procedure for more details please read brochure for CCMT website.

Faculty

3

Degree wise they have to be good to get job into NIT but as we all know culture never dies and followed mostly. I found only a few of them very sporty and cooperative rest don't care what you will be after leaveing this institute their main focus is completion of course. Overall teachers have always been an issue in our country but you can definitely find 2 excellent teachers out of 5 Who may be engaging your course as per my experience.

Placement Experience:

Basically, if we're talking about M.tech. students are eligible for campus placement in second year of the course. Many companies have visited so far in the past like L&T , VIT( for Assistant professor) , EIL (for top rank holders) , etc with good CTC packages. My plan is to join any renowned PSU, if selected after completion of this course, as im preparing for it.
