Deepa Jain's Review On ABES Engineering College, Ghaziabad

Those who have confidence that after passing out from this college they can easily get the Job on their own or those who are doing technical courses only for the sake of degree ABESEC is the place for you. I will not recommend this college to those who are heavily dependent on college management for placement opportunities because the efforts put down by the college management is not up-to the mark and needs improvement.

In 2007 I gave UPSEE Exam and I scored 9,345 rank (Nine thousnad,Three hundred and forty five rank )in general quota.During the counselling process in July 2007 I opted for various top colleges and my priority was in the order:- JSS Academy CSE branch, Ajay Kumar Garg Engineering College CSE branch, ABES Engineering College CSE branch, ABES Engineering College ECE branch, KIET,Galgotia and RKGIT for CSE branches out of which I was allotted with ECE branch in ABES Engineering College Ghaziabad. That is how I chose ECE branch in ABESEC.

Course of UPTU is very wide and there are 5 subjects in each semester.This is merely very difficult for college faculties to complete the course in the given duration of semester timelines.Quality wise syllabus is not up-to the mark whereas quantity of course/syllabus in UPTU (now APJ Abdul Kalam University) is very hectic. There is no choice in electives up-to 7th semester and you will get only 1 elective choice in 8th semester where there are only 4 subjects to pass out for and a project to work for. Faculty of our college are not upto the mark as most of the faculty members are recently passed out from UPTU colleges and only few of them are holding the M-Tech and PHD Degrees. Faculty of our ECE department lacks practical knowledge. Dr.Arun Arora (retd from BSNL) is the HOD of our ECE department and possess quality educational and teaching skills He has great practical knowledge as he earlier used to work with BSNL and possess sound knowledge on Satellite Systems and time to time he used to motivate students.

Generally Internship was provided to MCA students for their last semester where they have to work on a live project in a company. Companies also pay stipend to students which ranges from 6000-12000 INR per month.College do not put much efforts in helping students for their internship and students has to make their own ways to get an internship opportunity.

Tata Consultancy Services Limited,Genpact,R-Systems,Ericsson,Safenet,NIITare some of the regular companies visiting the college for campus placements. I was also placed in Tata Consultancy Services Limited in Jan 2011 with an annual package of 3.16 lakhs.Placement percentage of our college is near about 55% and the salary package offered to students varies in the range of 2.4 lpa to 3.9 lpa. In the year 2011 Ericsson and TCS offered 3.16 lpa to CSE,ECE and IT students while Agile Softech Pvt.Ltd. offered 2.6 lpa to CSE students. College need to make more efforts to drive reputed MNCs to visit the college.

Our college organize Gener'o ( Technical,Cultural Fest) every year in which different events like "Junk Busters","Code Spore","spandan","Sky Fest" are organized and we can observe good participation from all departments of our college in the Techno-cultural fest. We the students of ABES Engineering College with the help of college management used to do the marketing of our fest in nearby colleges of Ghaziabad.Students from different colleges also used to visit our college to take part in tecno-cultural Fest. Fest lasts 3 Days and our college used to organize Star night on the 3rd and final day of the fest. During my college days I attended Jal Band night and I can say that these 3 days are the best days we used to spent every year in our college. Management provide full support in the organization of Techno-Cultural fest in the college.

Total fees for 1st year is around 1,20,000 INR and is around 1,07,000 INR from 2nd year onwards which includes University Charges,Tuition fees,Registration Charges,Personality Development and Placement assistance charges. Fee structure of private engineering colleges in NCR affiliated to UPTU are on a higher side as compared to private engineering colleges which do not fall in NCR region.

Directly our college do not provide any loan/scholarship. Scholarships to meritorious students are given in the form of awards such as scholarship of Rs.3000 for getting highest marks in Mechanical Engineering in 1st year. Dr. KN Gupta memorial award of Rs.500o is also awarded to those students who achieve highest and second highest marks in Electrical Engineering in B-Tech 1st year. Samaj Kalyan Department also provides scholarship to minority students and as well as to OBC,SC/ST students depending on the income of their family members.

Gender ratio of our college is near about 60 girls per 100 boys and one can observe good diversity in our college. Most of the Students are from UP (East),UP (West),Bihar,Punjab,Uttarakhand,Delhi and Haryana states. College used to organize Robotics competition every year and a team of 6 students along with HOD and one faculty member used to visit South Korea for robotics show. Most of the students in the college are from Middle and Upper Middle class family and college follows zero tolerance policy with regards to race,religion and politics. College has its own dramatics club which occasionally used to perform some events in the college like "Nukkad Natak" and similar events. College also organize "International Conference on Modern Mathematical Methods and High Performance Computing in Science and Technology" every year in which professors from all around the country participate and put their views and present White papers on the emerging technologies.

There are 3 boys hostel and 2 girls hostel in our college. Available Hostel rooms are in triple sharing mode,double sharing mode and single sharing mode with hostel fees of around 70000 for triple sharing, 75000 for double sharing and 82000 for single sharing rooms.(Cooler charges,AC charges are extra and need to be deposited to finance department). Hostel is equipped with free Wi-Fi services which is available 24*7. Generally 1st year students are not allowed to use Laptops,Computers in their rooms. Hostel has ample no. of seats and one can also found good residential PG's near to ABES College location in Crossing Republic which had created a very smart township near the college premises. Mess food is good in the college and Non-Vegetarian food is not allowed in the college mess. We have a pre-defined menu of the hostel mess and any complains regarding the quality of eatables in hostel mess are given due importance by our hostel warden. Hostel warden is highly cooperative and helps students in the case of any needy situation.

Alumni of our college are very helpful and can be of great help when you are looking for some Job opportunities.One of my friend is working in MNC just because of referral scheme followed in one of my senior associate's company. Alumni of ABESEC spread all over the world are zealously serving human society as engineers, technologists, managers and entrepreneurs.

UPTU exams are hectic one and one has to go through a lot of theory books to clear the exams. Passing marks are 33 out of 100 and it is very difficult to pass UPTU exams due to careless marking done by our professors during the external university exams. Paper pattern is also not good and do not follow the pre-defined schema which is used to be taught during the semester days. Lab work is not hectic and one can easily complete his/her lab work because in UPTU more focus is on theoretical knowledge rather than on practical knowledge.

College degree is the key to realize your dreams and the College's Faculties will open the doors of opportunity in front of you and you are the one who will decide which path is right and which path is wrong which is the governing factor of your success in life.
